No tortillas should EVER be folded cold. Ever. Warming them may not solve all of your tuckological problems, but at least you will no longer be committing casual, constant sacrilege. Warming them is part of the cooking process and I don't see how they can taste right without it.

My usual method of warming tortillas is to warm them one at a time over a burner on the stove (I have a gas stove). It is less work than the steam heating method and is usually adequate for my purposes.

I wouldn't ever steam them. They taste better when heated on both sides on a griddle or large skillet on medium-high, just to the point beyond which they would get crispy. The best ones are the raw ones, which you heat in this fashion while turning frequently, until they blow up like balloons. Then you slap 'em on a plate and use right after they deflate. /johnnycochrane
