Approve Jesus, it's only a Trader Joe's! Calm down.

Except that my world seems that much brighter now that we have one of our own. Granted, it is a 70 mile round trip so we don't go often but, dude... :hearts:

I might just have to eat the carbonara-stuffed ravioli tonight. :homdrool:

I have to admit that when we moved, we gave a lot of consideration to our proximity to a Trader Joe's.

When a Whole Foods opened that was closer than the Trader Joe's, I made an attempt to phase out Trader Joe's by trying to find the same products at Whole Foods so I would only have to make one shopping trip.

It couldn't be done. For price, convenience and general yumminess, some things just can't be substituted. I still make my weekly to bi-monthly Trader Joe's runs.

Fast-forward to the weekend and we have made our trip to Joe's. $1.29 a head... sunnuv a bitch!

The nearest Trader Joe's is about an hour's drive from here, and there's a Whole Foods Market just down the road from it.

Once a month or so, I'll make the drive and stock up on nuts and dried fruit from Trader Joe's -- I just love their dried wild blueberries. Then I'll swing over to Whole Foods to pick up some fresh fruit and some of their 32 bean/8 vegetable soup mix. That's perhaps the heartiest and most satisfying soup you can possibly make.

Cheers,

Michael

My nearest is about half an hour away. Fortunately, my mom meets friends near another one once a month. Since she doesn't drive on the freeways one of us has to take her and we always stop at TJs when we are there. Monday was my most recent trip. I bought every bag of Turkish dried apricots in the place since the nearer store was out on my last trip. Even though they've raised the price by 50¢ it's still the best deal around.

Hear, hear! I dearly miss not having one here. Will be stocking up on certain things while back in CA next week, mostly nuts and soup stuff that I can't find for the same great prices at the local health food store here. Their sweet-n-spicy pecans are the awesomest... at least 6 packages will be coming home with me to be rationed!

The closest Trader Joe's to me is in Lincoln, Nebraska, 330 miles away. I think the distance would erase any cost savings there might be.

Whole Foods is much further out, 12.8 according to Google Maps.

I live about a mile and a half from one. Sometimes, on a weekend, I'll a walk there and back as my exercise for the day. The avocados and garlic & herb sausages I have for breakfast nearly every morning, as well as the heavy cream I use for my morning coffee, all come from Trader Joe's, as do the single-serving packets of almonds and unsweetened baking chocolate (try a disk, buried in whipped cream!) I use for snacks. It sells a liter of almond milk for a buck less than the Ralph's a little further down the road.

Frozen ahi tuna steaks.

We get a lot of our veggies there, as well--and our flowers. I picked up a couple of bunches of daffodils last night, on my way home from work.

Now, if they'd just start carrying pork rinds . . .

And coconut cream! It would be nice not to have to drive up the freeway to the nearest 99 Ranch Market for that.

My sister makes her own chocolates for us every Christmas, (sometimes also for Library Week if I beg hard enough). She used to buy the Ghirardelli ten pound bars but they stopped making them. Now she used Trader Joe's pound plus bars. They are the most inexpensive bulk chocolate she can buy and the quality is actually noticeably better, too. She also gets the roasted salted pistachios for the pistachio bark from TJs now and everyone has noticed how much better it was this year. All hail TJs!

TJs is at the end of my bus line so I got there often. Lots of great stuff and a good vegetarian selection too. Although it's amazing, for all the supposed peace and love the shoppers, mostly yuppy granola, are amazingly rude. They slam into you and block over crowded isles and even better they act like it's your fault for being in their way. Luckily the staff is much better with a couple hippie stoners on the crew.

I make it a habit to buy at least one thing I've never had everytime I'm there.

Yay for Trader Joe's! Neither of us really felt like cooking so we picked up some TJs enchiladas and taquitos for dinner.

We're getting a Trader Joe's nearby. I've only ever been in one once or twice, so I'm probably not nearly as excited as I should be. :meh:

Hmph to your Trader Joes. I go to Woodmans. Course, don't go on the weekend unless it's the evening or early morning, because the place is packed.

I am almost out of TJ's dried apricots and I have no time to drive the half hour it takes to get to one this weekend. AAAAAAH! I may have to pay grocery store prices. :freakout:

ONLY 32 BEANS? How many servings can that possibly make?!

Before I was diagnosed, and realized what beans could do to my blood sugars, I would buy cans of different types of beans from Trader Joe's and eat them straight from the can. There were a lot more than 32 beans in them.

We live about a mile and a half (easy 25-minute walk, on a weekend) from the nearest Trader Joe's. Half of our staples (heavy cream, avocados, nuts, different types of sausages--and now, their nitrate-free, uncured, grass-fed, organic beef hot dogs) come from there.

the best innovation they made at TJ's in the last 10 years is that they FINALLY gave up the head-in/back-out checkout stands and created move-through checkout lanes instead. MAJOR improvement in ease-of-use of the store.

Arise from 5+ years of dust and desuetude, ye dead thread, arise I say!

:live:

I love most everything I've gotten at Trader Joe's. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I ask that you not buy Trader Joe's Golden Belgian Style Ale. It comes with the cork thingie, it's huge, alla that, and it's only $5.99. Seemed like a no-brainer.

Blech. Chimay this ain't. :bleh: And now I hafta drink this entire monstrous bottle, 'cause wasting it would be alcohol abuse.

ETA: Almost done with it. The alcohol content is through the roof, so it's got that oigng fro ti. :drunk4:

Yabbut there are many Belgian styles, including some of the most insipid piss ever.

Chimay may even do a golden style, although I hope not. Did the offending bottle say Trappist anywhere on it? If not, caveat emptor.

Let's face it, beer is colour-coded for a reason. The paler it is, the more like sex in a canoe it is.
