At least when Hilly is prezdog (assuming) I won't be so disappointed when the fig leaf slips like I was with Barry. I really had high hopes for him for a couple of years. Not that he didn't do anything, exactly, but it seems like there were always a bunch of caveats and asterisks attached. I'm not really expecting her to do more than make soothing noises about any meaningful reform, in spite of her PR attempt to morph into Elizabeth Warren. I am still casting a hideously bloodshot and ghastly yellow glazed jaundiced, unfocused, daz-ed eye upon the full breadth of the political horizon. I really believe there is no relief in sight as far as seeing my political preferences put into practice until something truly momentous happens, like ya know, a good old fashioned civil/social upheaval of some type.

The fucking of the poors shall likely continue unimpeded. That's my prognosis.

Same here. After all, we've already had plenty of first-hand experience with a U.S. president named Clinton practicing the fine art of beating the opposition by becoming the opposition.

2. The Kansas Legislature: Poor people need to have harder lives, so let’s limit their cash withdrawals.
The Kansas legislature has figured out a way to lather on more shame, hardship and humiliation to poor people’s lives. This week, the legislature voted to limit the size of withdrawals that welfare recipients can make from their own bank accounts. Beginning in July, the maximum ATM withdrawal per day will be $25.

So, no government over-reach there.
I really srsly can not believe this, but, it seems to be true. :angrychickenmob:

There's this growing myth among the rich and racist that cash = drugs.
There's been a number of cases where people (*cough* blacks) have been stopped carrying large amounts of legitimate cash and the cops took it and refused to give it back under the allegation cash is used for drug buys.

I don't know Kansas's laws but there might be an ulterior motive as well. In some areas the easiest way to pay for bail is cash, so in theory this could make even small bail = jail time.

So, CBS has a brand new reality show where economically struggling people are pitted against each other by offering them a sum of money, but making it conditional on the fact that they can choose to give some or all of it to another family who may be in worse shape, thus catching them between their hope for financial solvency and their guilt for not helping out another struggling family. Or so I gathered from the brief advertisement where they outlined the idea.

Well, the TV show has now premiered, and it's just as loathsome, repellent, and detestable as I thought it would be.

The Hunger Games: New CBS reality show exploits poor families by making them grovel for $101,000

There are no words. :projectilevomit:

Some people actually didn't understand why The Hunger Games resonated. "It's us, idiot!" shouldn't have ever needed to be said.

So now I can just be all "see??"

Heritage Foundation: raising minimum wage to $15 per hour will kill fast food businesses.

Au contraire...
  • Analysis by Arnobio Morelix, an undergraduate student at the University of Kansas School of Business, estimated the Big Mac would rise by 68 cents.
  • A study from Purdue University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management says 17 cents.
  • This guy at Forbes says no increase.
