Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I dragged my ass out of bed and went to work for the first time this week. Fucking sinus infection has been kicken my ass. I even drove 'cause I have a parent/teacher conference at 5 and the van wouldn't get me there until 5:30. But my biggest petty accomplishment is leaving the 12-pack of St. Arnold Amber in the fridge, untouched, since I bought it right before I got sick and now I'm on antibiotics.

I finally got around to putting my recipes and phone numbers in one place and putting them on my kitchen Chumby.
Unfortunately, I made a really ugly HTML splash page for them, so I'm probably going to try to make that look nice later. And I always get really mad when I do that because I suck at graphics.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
Should this go in the Computers forum, under Macbook with a Vengeance? Or the Planned Obsolescence thread? Or is it a Lifestyle entry? Or a new thread unto itself? The mere spending of money hardly seems an accomplishment, even a petty one. Still, here it is: I have purchased a MacBook Air. So I maintain, avow, and vouchsafe; it is true. My days of MacBook Airlessness -- my MacBook suffocation, hence, if you will -- those days are over.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
We won the iPad raffle at my kid's school. That may not sound like an accomplishment, but it kinda was. See, it was at the carnival-style fundraiser they have every year, and you buy big, long strings of tickets, an arm span at a time. The kicker is, you have to put your name and phone number on each little ticket, then stuff 'em in a box for the prize you want to go for. So my wife decided to get at least 10 strings of tickets, and we risked RSI's in getting all of that crap filled out. They all went into the iPad box. So we got the damned thing.
Yes, Mrs. Puppet really, really, reeeeeeally wanted an iPad. But we didn't want to spend $500 to get it. So we spent around $25 instead.
ETA: Oh, we also spent a bunch of money on auction crap we didn't need. The school got plenty of cash out of us, don't worry.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I made my first blueberry pie from scratch. That's probably something I should have gotten around to years ago, but I like to leave family members with their own specialties and not step on them. But I realized my mom might not be here forever so I needed to learn how to make her pie recipes. It was a resounding success.

I think that's a non-petty accomplishment. My maternal grandmother was a pie savant. One of my greatest regrets is that I was too young to appreciate the skillz so I never had a chance to learn at her knee before she died.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I was complaining about how much hummus was stuck in the high chair straps and unwipeableoffable, and my friend said, "I just throw the cover and the straps in the washer every now and then." And so I did just that and now froguar's high chair looks like new pretty good.
I didn't even realize the straps came off the thing. Woohoo.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I was just messing with Matlock's cell phone account and I noticed that he had a whole bunch of excess in his account (he seriously almost never uses his phone, but I make him have it anyway), and I was like, "A-ha-ha," and I bought TLM a new phone for his birthday using Matlock's phone spending account. I am such a clever hen!
I also got myself a new one, but that's sort of bad because I've only had four different phones since 1992, and this will hurt my stats.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
Us olds never use up all our 'so many hundred free texts a month' entitlement. The unused ones should be allowed to accumulate and then they could be inherited by our young text-hungry relatives when we die.
On second thoughts, scratch that idea. We don't want those young hooligans plotting to murder us just to get their groping hands on our free text stashes.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
Oh, Matlock's even older than that. We both have really barebones setups where we pay $20 every 3 months just to keep the phone number active, and then our minutes and texts are really expensive. I don't like talking on the phone much, so I maybe send 5 texts and talk for 5 minutes a week or something, but he doesn't even leave his phone turned on, and maybe makes a 30 second call once a month or so, so he ended up with about $400 in there.
