Hello old thread!

Since I have finally been blessed with Toddy weather, I finally got around to trying this. I mixed a mint tea blend of spearmint and peppermint with a cinnamon hibiscus tea blend I found. I added a bit of orange peel while it steeped and poured it in a glass with honey. Floated Maker's Mark bourbon on top because I don't keep brandy in the house.

It is very, very nice. It isn't very red, more of a dark amber. But it sure is tasty. It definitely has that ephemeral quality to it. Very strong but really smooth. It is warm and cool at the same time which is perfect for chilly weather. You feel it all the way in the back of your throat and up into your nose. A pleasant cool, tingly burn. :redhoard:

A friend had brain wave of another element that would add lovely color and is in season: blood orange. I am going to have to see if I can round some up to experiment.

Did you ever give it a try wei?

It's actually called "Alien Brain Hemorrhage" and it's pretty tasty. You fill a shot glass halfway with peach schnapps, then pour Bailey’s Irish Cream on top. After the shot is almost full, carefully add a small amount of blue curacao, then add a few drops of grenadine. Push strands downward with stirring stick. Toss back, then enjoy. Repeat as often as require for the alien brain hemorrhage to take over your brain.

I tried new drink last night, coke and rum with strawberry milk in it. wasn't too terrible, wouldn't recommended it to anyone though.

I have to thank my little girl for that, as she just seemed to know that I needed her strawberry milk in my rum and coke

I may try a wassailish hot-toddie-ish thing tonight. I have my favorite local cider, not hard, mulling spices, some juice oranges and good brandy. I am going to put them together tonight on the stove in some proportion and see what happens. I have a cold, so that gives me a perfect excuse.

I have the misfortune once again of not being able to keep any intoxicating potions in my domicile due to certain household member's potomania.

had the same problem with a roommate I had years ago. a born again stop at the bar on the way home from the AA meeting, then wake in the drunk tank with an assault charge kind of guy. I used to have hide my drinks under lock and key.

Reaper pulled his number last year, must of filled his life time quota of heavy drinking, coke use, and bar fights. He was found frozen in a ditch, police figure he just passed out drunk.

Somewhere I heard, or read, that alcohol kills off brain cells. Perhaps, if I keep drinking wine, I can someday be as smart as everyone else.

That's pretty stupid, I think you should quit before you kill the other brain cell.

Aren't you afraid it will get lonely.

It's your brain cell, I think it must be lonely already.

Only my thoughts are lonely. No-one to share them with.

It's almost gin season, and I've got this on my to-do list. I haven't had creme de violette yet, but it sounds like it'd be right up my alley, so I could probably work my way through a bottle.

So purty, too!

That is one of my all time favorite drinks. My friend is a bar owner and specializes in prohibition era drinks. One of his best bars, which is sadly no longer with us, had that drink as one of the featured specialties. Which was smart, because locally, the aerospace industry has been a huge part of Fort Worth's post Cowtown economy.

Most of the mascots in Fort Worth have either something to do with planes or panthers. The panther comes from another local legend about our city. It was said that when the cattle drives were not coming through, the city was so sleepy a panther would nap in the afternoons on Main Street on the court house lawn. There is a statue there that marks the spot.

A friend of mine has an awesome coin that was minted in the 1920's by local business owners that features the panther with letters around it that spell "AWAKE." My friend had it set into a pin that he wears sometimes. Sorta puts a spin on the whole sleepy town thing, which is where we got the idea for the name Panther City Exchange.

So in short, that is an absolutely fantastic drink I think you will love and also I have a friend who is male and totally rocks an awesome brooch.

Juniper berries are fresh, important if you're making your own.

Recipe for gin:
Vodka
Juniper berries

Soak juniper berries in vodka for three days, with other spices like orange peel, nutmeg, or cinnamon as desired. Strain. Store in refrigerator. Serve with tonic water on ice.

Most definitely, and it is somewhat limited.

It starts on Jan. 1, and goes till Dec. 31.

For the most effect, start as early as possible each day of the season.

Mick got very excited when I made him his Black Forest birthday cake because I used kirsch. Apparently there is a drink with kirsch and gin that they drank on the Hindenburg. I even saved the kirsch left over from soaking the cherries so he can drink it next time he visits.

Well, I did some research and it turns out there is no gin in it. In fact, it was invented because they ran out of gin on the Hindenburg, according to this. And now that I know the history, I will have to drink it with him despite my dislike of most cocktails. The Saint is still my hero and Charteris one of my favorite authors, so I just have to.

Yeah, but look what happened to the Hindenburg. It was probably started by a waiter flaming a kirsch-soaked Black Forest birthday cake.
