Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Poor Sylvie I hope she is okay.
O'Shea (RIP) once punched the window out trying to go after the pool dude. They were old windows and not tempered glass so it was horrible sharp shards. The living room looked like a murder scene there was so much blood. He wasn't nearly as severely injured as your Sylvie, but it was scary enough as it was.
The pool dude scaled the wall and probably pissed his pants. He never came without calling first again though, as I had asked him to forever before that.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Ours is the old untempered glass too. Nasty stuff when it is broken like that.
She has always barked at the mailman. Our mail box is by the front door, so he has to come up on the porch, passing that window. I tried to discourage her in the past, but it is a game for her, not real aggression so I kinda let it slide. He's here and gone in no time so I just said whatever.
I recently decided that we would stop mail service at our house and get a post office box. Not because of Sylvie, but because our old mailman retired and the new guy is awful. We don't get much mail, but we get other people's all the time. Then we had mail we were expecting not show up. Recently a check had to be sent three times before it reached us. Then I found out at Christmas that mail had been sent back to family members saying "not at this address." Invitations, pictures, and important stuff. We'll walk our neighbors' mail over to them if we get it, but I guess some people won't or can't.
Not anymore. Once SS is over, we are getting a mail box. I don't mind running twice a week to get it, so long as we actually get it. Then the daily temptation will be gone and hopefully I can break her of the habit.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Would that stop the mailman from showing up with the wrong mail, though? I get wrong mail all the time, because of weird address issues. I put it back out for the mail man either with "not at this address" written on it or, if it's for East or has a different zip code I will underline those. Really, there is no excuse for them giving me mail from another zip code but they do it all the time.

Your friend could just make a sling out of a big pashmina or something, provided the little dog is calm.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Kitty news! I have another one.
My brother adopted cat and made me promise that if he ever got a job and wouldn't be able to take the cat that I'd take him. Sadly my brother passed away last Wednesday. I picked up Fisher and brought him home. He's sweet but has developed a severe disliking to one of my two current kitties. We had a vet appointment today and by luck my attending vet was their resident behavior specialist. She gave me a list of things to try to curb the aggression. I hope I can work this kitty out, I don't know if I have the heart to give him up.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Bushi and Velvet got into a lot, hissing, wrestling, biting, clawing, surprise attacks from corners, in the beginning. It took a few months for them to whittle down the hatred to still regular but less alarming fights, and it has really taken a full year for them to find a sisterly balance.
curses, what happened to your brother? Did you post about this before and I missed it? I'm so sorry.

I totally sympathize. I inherited my grandparents' cat when they passed away in 2012. She does not get along with our other cats at all. It's less outright aggression in her case than it is feeling the need to mark everything in the house. After a couple rounds with the behaviorist, the solution we landed on is Tabby lives in the office, and comes out for supervised visits in the evenings, coupled with having access to me when I'm in there (which is frequently...it's where my PC is). I still wish we could get her better integrated into the household, but it's better than nothing. I promised Gramma and Grandpa I'd look after their cat if and when they couldn't, and unless the vet tells me she's miserable at our house, I don't think I could stand giving her up.

to curses.
Every time I've blended new kittehs in with established kittehs, there's a lot of hissing and growling at the beginning, but everyone settles down eventually. I bet it will work out okay.

Yeah, Q is a fussypants and a princess, which you know, and she grudgingly quit hissing at both chihuahuas and the kitteh eventually. And trust me those three are all total assholes.

The My Cat is Killing Me guy (Jackson Galaxy?) always promotes more playtime with the cases he works.

It's called My Cat From Hell. Inasmuch as cats can be whispered, he's the dude that can do it.

Lovable scamp, yes, but a tad bit overweight. No cookies. Extras walks have been shortened due to the Polar Vortex, but Aplphabits loves to jump (can almost go nose-to-nose with me) and learned that command like a champ. I made him jump like 25 times in a row on Tuesday, simply because he wasn't burning off enough energy and getting restless.
