Founder of a German extreme right anti-immigrant group PEGIDA (Patriotische Europäer gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes or 'Patriottic Europeand Against the Islamisation of the Evening Land' i.e. Europe) was told he is not welcome by the local government.

"Those who don't love Germany should leave Germany," PEGIDA co-founder Lutz Bachmann once said. Now, one month after moving to Tenerife, local officials have told him he is not welcome.

So, is his move to Tenerife evidence that he doesn't love Germany?

Re: News Miscellany
A federal court jury today found Rolling Stone reporter Sabrina Erdely, Rolling Stone magazine and its parent company liable for defaming a University of Virginia administrator in connection with a campus gang rape story published in November 2014. The story crashed and burned over a period of months until Rolling Stone retracted it in April 2015.
No damages awarded today, so presumably the judge bifurcated the trial.
If you listen carefully, you can hear the itty bitty MRA boners popping in basements across the land.

Re: News Miscellany
Ok, here's some Syria news. The mostly Kurdish SDF has started an offensive on ISIS controlled Raqqa with US air support and special forces.
Quote:
It said 30,000 fighters with the SDF were taking part in the battle to liberate al-Raqqa.
The Syrian government has not yet commented on the war on al-Raqqa by the U.S.-backed SDF, but analysts here played down the SDF war on IS as a "media campaign."
Hamdi Abdullah, a Syrian political analyst, told Xinhua that the number of the SDF fighters that was announced is "exaggerated," adding that the SDF alone cannot take down the IS group in al-Raqqa.
He said the campaign aims to polish the United States image ahead of the presidential elections in Washington, casting doubts on the real intensions of Washington regarding the fight against IS in Syria.
|
Kurdish-led rebels advance against IS in Syria's Raqqa
Which apart from that, the SDF has pretty good ties with the Syrian regime, example:
Syrian Army takes control of Aleppo Infantry Academy after peace deal with Kurds
They also work together in Aleppo where there is a Kurdish enclave (Sheikh Massoud) which was bombed by the 'rebels' and which aided the regime troops in taking the surrounding areas (and gaining some ground themselves). Plus they have been fighting both ISIS and the FSA/Jabhat-al-Nusra/Jabhat-Fateh-al-Sham/Al-Qaeda supported by the Turkish army in northern Aleppo. So they are not pro-regime but not pro-rebels either. And both the Russian and the US airforce have supported them at times.

‘I hate this beard. By God, I hate it’: Iraqi men celebrate their freedom by shaving
Quote:
As the Iraqi security forces proceed through Mosul, meeting resistance as they liberate Isis-controlled areas, civilians flee to secured Iraqi internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in order to avoid further conflict. For most of the men in the camps, this freedom means the chance to shave their scruffy, unkempt beards.

For a man to shave off his beard is an affront to God. I hope those apostates die the death of a thousand razor nicks.

Re: News Miscellany
That Neil DeGrasse Tyson bloke ( sorry about name/spelling if that's wrong ) said that whoever came up with the 'supermoon' name is an idiot. The moon only changes its distance from earth by a few percent - probably not enough to be really noticeable to the naked eye. He asked if you were used to a fifteen - inch pizza, would you call a sixteen - inch one a 'superpizza' ?

I've always thought that! I am nearly as smrt as Neil DeGrasse Tyson! (spelling copied and pasted so it's still cep's fault if wrong)

In defence of dumb journalists and readers, many pizza chains would in fact do this.

Re: News Miscellany
Quote:
On Monday, the Turkish Armed Forces and aligned Free Syrian Army (FSA) proxy factions shelled the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as the latter attempted to seize an ISIS-held area in the northern Aleppo countryside.
FSA units and Turkish tanks stationed at the village of Ablah opened fire upon SDF fighters who were observed closing in on the neighbouring ISIS-held village of Tall al-Jijan, effectively causing Kurdish fighters to call off their attacks.
|
Turkey gives artillery support to ISIS in bid to halt Kurdish advances in northern Syria
So we have NATO troops shelling a US-supported militia (there's special forces on the ground with them too), to make sure they don't take a village from ISIS. Makes you feel warm inside doesn't it? Warm and tingly.
In other news: Syrian pro-regime forces were shelled with chemical weapons again. But it's only news if it's the right victims...
