Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
Why are we supposed to assume that there is voter fraud there as opposed to people casting provisional ballots who did not submit change of address forms in time?
Get some real evidence first.

State Issue 2, which failed, would have resulted in the appointment of a bipartisan commission that would have redrawn the districts. Problem with that approach is that the commission would not be accountable to the voters and once appointed, members could remain on the commission indefinitely at state expense, plus spending tax dollars with no accountability to the voters, just to the general assembly. Nice work if you can get it.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
Lest anyone believe the bullshit about how the gerrymandering is responsible for the GOP's popular House vote loss...
2012 is an outlier with a historic gap between the popular vote margin and the resulting House composition:
There has been gerrymandering before, but this may be the most effective yet.
And no, it doesn't depress turnout in places like Ohio and Pennsylvania and North Carolina, where there was a close presidential race in all three, and two senatorial races and a gubernatorial race among them. Gerrymandering should not cause those states to have reduced turnout in non-competitive districts, because people's turnout is much more affected by senate, governor and president.

In the 9th you could move 50,000 dem votes to the 5th and 4th each ... that would make all three districts competitive.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
Apparently you don't know how it works. You need to move dem votes into rep districts to get more dems elected to congress.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
I think it's pretty easy to see that districts 1, 2 and 8 are drawn to dilute the Democratic vote from Cincinnati. The districts around Cleveland and Akron are also drawn so that the central urban areas of two cities are in one tightly packed district and then the districts around them dilute the rest of the cities/liberal inner suburbs.
It's not really mysterious nor does it require insidious gerrymandering to undo it.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
No, district 8 had a 230,000 advantage in votes for the reps, so moving those votes to another district would not help the dems win any seats.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
Districts 1 and 2 were won by the reps by 60-40, how would you change that to get a seat for the dems?
385,000 reps votes vs 256,000 dem votes ..
Btw, Cincinnati thinks it is Kentucky.

Re: GOP owes house majority to gerrymander
Gee, Jerome must be right, the fact that they drew little wriggly things into Cincinnati to divide the city in three must be because they knew Cincinnati was a Republican stronghold
They really wanted Cincinnati to overpower the rural Democrats all around it, right?

Which district do you think Cincinnati should be in, District 1 or District 2?

Probably a different Wayne County. Detroit is also in Wayne County and I suspect (or vaguely remember) the band is from Detroit.
