It's like watching a fucking automaton.
Whatever idea happens to enter his mind is reasonable and correct, and the rest of reality shifts in response to that.
I mean, a bag of potatoes is quite similar to a jellyfish since neither have ever admitted a felony.
On the other hand, they are completely different because potatoes have eyes.

Neither I nor LadyShea (nor Tom Smith) have raised the issue of similarity between a bag of potatoes and a jellyfish, dude, so you too seem to be following a script of your own.

lol Similar how?

Todd Akin’s Wife Compares GOP Abandonment to Rape, Tyranny | TPM2012
Quote:
Lulli Akin said that efforts to push her husband out of the race threaten to replace elections “by the people and for the people” with “tyranny, a top-down approach.” She added, “Party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisions—it’s just like 1776 in that way.”
She cited colonists who “rose up and said, ‘Not in my home, you don’t come and rape my daughters and my … wife. But that is where we are again. There has been a freedom of elections, not tyranny of selections since way back. Why are we going to roll over and let them steamroll us, be it Democrats or Republicans or whomever?”

But the good thing is that Akin can't get pregnant from all of this, so there's that at least.

It's too bad Todd Akin's body can't just shut that whole process down
Also he's the one who wants to repeal the 17th Amendment and so replace popular elections with state legislatures picking senators. And she's complaining about party bosses picking who gets to be a senator? Do they ever not have stupid ideas?

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
I don't remember where or when we talked about the whole "I am the 99%" meme, and the response from Republicans of "I am the 53%" (referring to the 53% of Americans who earn enough to owe federal income taxes).
But I don't remember if we ever posted this site, which responded to a number of stupid and/or delusional posts by those people (who are probably conservatives, so: on topic!):
ACTUALLY, YOU'RE THE 47%

Indeed.

Todd Akin’s new push for female voters has not gone over much better than the congressman’s August explanation of his opposition to abortion rights even in the case of rape.
On Tuesday the Akin campaign posted the Women for Akin website under the tagline “We think for ourselves.”
The website, published on the day the Akin campaign plans a “Missouri Women Standing with Todd Akin” kickoff event featuring Phyllis Schlafly, was pulled down a few hours after it launched, after the St. Louis Post-Dispatch discovered one of the women featured prominently in a photo with Akin is actually a Democratic staffer.
“Corinne Matti, who is pictured on Akin’s site standing to Akin’s left, is a ‘tracker’ for the Missouri Democratic Party,” the Post-Dispatch reported. “Her job, which she does openly, is to attend Akin’s public events and report back to the Democrats. She has been doing it for more than a year.”

Fantasy Women of the GOP | The Nation
These guys think they're making some kind of one-off gaffe, where they've used some "politically incorrect" terminology or something, when the real problem is that the actual things they're saying--not just the wording or the factual errors--are loathsome and completely untenable.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
This is exactly how I've been feeling and my experience.
"This weekend I went to a wedding where I sat next to a woman who was pregnant with her second child. Like me, her health and life were put at risk when she developed pre-eclampsia during her first pregnancy. She was livid. She could hardly contain her rage as she spoke about GOP policies on women’s health. She was fortunate—as I was—to have her wanted pregnancy go to term. But when Republicans mock the health exception, she told me, “they’re talking about me.”
“They’re saying it’s fine if I die.”
Women know exactly how little Republicans think of them. So please, guys, do us the favor of not acting so shocked when we call you on it."
(From the Nation Article Lisarea linked to).
Every time the GOP says it wants to limit contraception and abortion I hear "DIE!"

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
I see that Clint Eastwood has a new movie out. That gets me to thinking about his performance at the Republican Convention. I didn't see it, but everything I've heard or read about it indicates that his performance was rambling and unfocused at best. I've even heard a number of people suggesting that he has become senile.
One comment was that Eastwood's performance demonstrated that no one at the RNC had any true empathy -- because if there had been one person there with a heart, (s)he would have gone up onto the stage, given poor Clint a good hug, and then gently led him off the stage.
The problem is that everything I've read suggests that at least when it comes to making movies, Clint is still just as sharp as a tack.
But consider the movies he has been making recently.
Letters from Iwo Jima is all about how an enemy we thought of as cruel and heartless and inscrutable is just as human as we are. And how the Japanese soldiers -- just like the American G.I.s who opposed them -- were motivated by love of country, a desire to protect their loved-ones, and a desire to do what they thought was right.
Gran Torino was about a bigoted old man gradually learning that just because people don't look or speak like you doesn't mean that they aren't kind and decent people too. His character even comes to realize that his Hmong neighbors treat him with much more respect and concern than do his own family members. The movie also contains some not-at-all-subtle criticisms of people who are more concerned about making money and gaining status than they are about family and community.
Million Dollar Baby is about a bigoted old man gradually learning that women can do anything that men can, and shouldn't be discriminated against. And in the end, he helps a crippled young woman commit suicide -- giving her the chance to end her life on her own terms. This movie, too, contains some not-at-all-subtle criticisms of people who place more value on money than on family.
So: Foreigners -- even those with whom we are at war -- are decent people too, just like us. Bigotry is wrong, and if you take the time to get to know people, you'll find that people of different ethnicities are just like us. Mindless pursuit of wealth and status (the "American dream") over the good of your family and community is wrong. Women can do anything they want, even if that means entering and excelling in traditionally male-dominated fields. A person has the right to die with dignity, if (s)he so desires, even if his/her family objects.
Sounds to me like Clint is an old-fashioned Republican, and that his values don't fit in with the modern Republican Party at all. I can't help but wonder if he was somehow strong-armed into performing at the RNC, and his lackluster performance was because his heart just wasn't in it.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
I've heard the trolling theory but I thought it was something of a fanwank. I must admit his performance dulled my interesting in taking my mom to his new movie. The early ads for the film made it seem to be about a man who was losing his faculties and, after watching him ramble on that stage, it seemed in poor taste to see it.
I can't be the only one who felt that, because they have changed all the commercials for it to cut out the stuff about him losing it and mention Jason Timberlake, who wasn't in any earlier ads. I have heard his character is really losing his eyesight, not his mental capacity, so I may take my mom after all. Depends how I feel when it actually hits theaters.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
I just got back from seeing it. (I Amy Adams, and I'd probably pay good money to see her read a phone book for 2 hours.) That aside, it's a decent movie and worth seeing, though it's utterly predictable.
Clint's character is losing his eyesight, not his marbles.
In fact, without giving anything away, a fairly important plot point is that even though he's past his prime and some people suspect he's losing it, he's still really, really good at what he does.

Thanks for that. I'll take my mom if she wants to go. Naturally, we finally had time to see a movie last week when there was nothing we wanted to see. This week I'm fully booked.
