Re: Miscellany
I used to have a standing twice a week burrito order from Ken the mailman. His neighbor was here illegally, so she'd make burritos and he'd sell them for her on his route.
Those were some of the best burritos I've had, and believe you me, I have had a lot of burritos.
Also, once, I saw Ken go "postal" all over some asshole who cut him off in traffic. He got out of his truck and was like FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKER, and I was like you go Ken, you tell that guy.
(For like two seconds, I thought maybe I should not post his real name, like the postmaster general would see this and do some big investigation to find and fire the rogue mailman, and then I remember that he was already about 70 years old probably 20 years ago, and that wouldn't probably happen anyway. Ken is a funny name. I wanted to tell that part.)
I think the moral of all these stories is coming out to be, "You should buy food from randos, because it is usually pretty good."

Re: Miscellany
Especially tamales. Bad tamales from randos seem to be the exception rather than the rule, while I have yet to find a restaurant that does them right. (Hint: there's a reason why they're usually served in restaurants drowned in chili sauce.)

Re: Miscellany
There was a lady that would stand outside of the post office in Long Beach with her wheeled Coleman, barking "tamale, tamale, tamale" all morning until she sold them out. $1 apiece, and OMFG.

Re: Miscellany
Boring Even Older Woman Thought for the Day: I prefer colder weather, and I also like rainy days, although I acknowledge that the former might have something to do with living in a semi-arid climate. I might not like it too much if it rained all the time. Humidity makes my hair get sort of big, like poofy newscaster hair, which is funny every now and again, but might lose its appeal if it were the default.
I'm already getting uncomfortable with the heat here. I start having a hard time sleeping when the temperature gets up much above 70 during the day, and it's gotten up into the low 80s already.

Re: Miscellany
Boring Old Man Post: I spent a weekend at a convention booth with a crew, who were younger than me by an average of 15 years. I felt all 45 of my years in one weekend. I was tired, slow moving and just exhausted at the end of every day, while they went out to dinner and drinks.
I'm so fucking old.

I don't really have the skills to photograph or video stuff in the dark.
Or in the light, for that matter. Even my dogs tend to look like blobsquatches in my pictures.

Boring Old Woman Who is a Mom Story: I read Kiddo the entry regarding towels from HHGTTG, and he has taken to using a towel as a blanket and pillow around the living room and such. He is a hoopy frood who knows where his towel is, now!

Re: Miscellany
Spent 20 minutes just staring at the sky. I couldn't see colour in the aurora (too much light pollution here, I think), and at first glance I would have assumed wispy clouds. But they moved around like clouds can only dream of, appearing and disappearing in seconds, jumping around, like slo-mo, massive, faint grey flames.
I know you in North America see auroras all the time, what with your fancy magnetic pole favoritism and all, but it is a first for me. I have lived in Scandinavia for over 40 years and never seen this before tonight.
