Smile Adorable Quirks

My Dad turns eggs right-side up. In his own home or visiting somewhere, he just can't help himself. The broader side has to be on the bottom. I think it's adorable, a testament to his many decades of :chicken: dealings.

What weirdo things do your people do that make you :aww:?

I have noticed that many people, when counting money, will turn the bills to all face the same way with the same side up. Many people, if not all, will place a stamp on a letter the right side up, even though it makes no difference to the post office which way you put the stamp on. It only makes a difference to some radical left wing loonies, who place some silly meaning on the orientation of the stamp.

Whenever I let my mom have a taste of what I'm drinking she always stirs it with the straw before trying it. I don't even think she's aware of it.

Mrs Sectus always insists I smell every meat product before it gets cooked, if she is doing the cooking. As if she would not be able to smell meat going off or something.

I don't seem to be able to detect odors very well anymore, So I ask my wife to check foods from the refrigerator when I am in doubt. I tell people "I don't smell very good, - but I'll take a shower."

My dad sometimes gets his wires crossed when talking about stuff. He's still one of the sharpest folks I know, just... It's hard to explain.

"Green twos" -- uttered during a game of Hearts. He either meant Three of Hearts or Three of Spades, not even he's sure any more.

"he can swim like a bat" -- I forget what this was about, we both broke down into several minutes of laughter after that.

And doubtless more not marked or remembered.

When my wife and I were first married, she frequently would exclaim "Shoot!" for various reasons. I would invariably respond, "Bang!", pointing a finger at her. It only took a couple of years to break her will.

When I would use a pun in a sentence, rather than just groan, my wife would say, "Brouhaha!" She didn't stop doing that until sometime after Princess Bride came out.

----------------------------------

There is one mixed metaphor I frequently used on purpose, garnered from Biff Tannen on Back to the Future, "Let's make like a tree and get out of here." I said it so often that my daughter Notsosure thought I was just stupid. That is until last year, when she finally saw the movie with some friends, and the lightbulb went on. Now she thinks I'm stupid and quirky.

----------------------------------

Speaking of mixed metaphors... well, no I better not go there.

I still do that, and with others as well, but I don't point my finger at them.

If you happen to use a sentence that contains a group of words that is part of a song lyric, then Mrs Sectus will sing that song lyric. So if you say "Hit the road" she will probably sing "Hit the road jack" at some stage in the immediate future.

She is able to do that with a surprisingly large amount of things that people say. I don't think I can remember a tenth of the amount of song lyrics that she apparently has at her command.

Sometimes it falls under the header of adorable, on other days I would consider it justification for womanslaughter.

Oh, yeah, my Mom bursts into song at the drop of a hat. We've all picked up the infection from her. Can't be helped.

I have that also. What is more cruel is people who prey on that on purpose, so I have had to subdue my inner diva of late. :sadcheer:

When the singing starts, does the orchestra start to play along? If so you might be living in a musical.

No, but if you ask my mother why she does it, she'll tell you it's because she sees no reason not to live like the people she watches in musicals.
