Television Mad Men

liv conned me into watching this show. It's about Madison Avenue advertising execs, and it's set in 1960. Per liv, they drink and smoke like it's going out of fashion, and "the furniture is immense hotness." Per myself, it is absolutely racist and sexist, and the period clothes and hair-styles are to die for. I have watched seven episodes, and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Despite myself, I do love Peggy. She reminds me of what Pam from The Office could be, if Pam wasn't such a giant wuss. And Pam doesn't even have the excuse that it's fucking 1960 to remain on her duff and be afraid of the big bad world.

Also Christina Hendricks (Saffron of Firefly) is fucking phenomenal. Obviously. Like she has a choice.

It's available on AMC On Demand, if anyone else is interested.

:woohoo: I was wondering if you got into it.

Christina Hendricks slays me. Not only is her performance flawless, but how amazingly hot does she look? It's like Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell ca. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes had a daughter.

I also must give props to Connor there. He's really good despite my Angel bias against him.

Finally, I  Jon Hamm, shellacked hair and all.

P.S. - Season 2 starts the 29th, so now's your chance to hit On Demand for the first season marathon.

See, I don't know who Connor is. I was looking on his filmography (because I swear I recognize him) and the only thing I've even heard of is Angel. But which I never watched, so who the hell knows who I'm confusing him with. Love him though, especially when he's banging Penny on the fabulous couch. I had to rewind for that one. Oops! Spoiler alert. :giggles:

Also, I just discovered that there are recaps on television without pity. There goes the rest of my weekend. Thanks. :P

Actually, no, I'm usually to busy looking at her dresses. Her clothes are probably the only thing I like about her.

I also just love how they're not wimps about everything. The kids get to play in plastic dry-cleaning bags, and climb all over the car with no restraints. The pregnant lady drinks and smokes. The men drive home from the parties (or work) drunker than skunks! And nobody judged them. Those were the days.

I was just channel surfing, saw a few minutes of this show, then came to FF and saw this as the most recently updated thread :whoa:

I've seen a couple of episodes, it's very good.

It's a good thing those days are over. That kind of idiotically reckless behavior should not be tolerated. It's too bad I don't have the requisite On Demand channel to see this.

Here's a cool wee interview with Peggy. SPOILER PACKED! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN ALL OF SEASON 1.

Cute picture of her, too.

Are they really going to bring back Big Love for another season? That would be so cool.

I still have one last episode, but I needed to say this.

Enough with the fat suit already. Peggy looks like flashback Monica, and it is completely distracting. What is the point of making her fat?

Okay, I'm all caught up!
And now I can join y'all in :eager: for the next season.

This is the same shit that happened for me with Lost. Are there any more shows I can become addicted to over the summer? I could try catching up on Weeds, since I have Showtime free for a year (squee!), but ... meh.

Weeds. Now there is a great show. Californication is also awesome. I'll have to check out this Mad Men show. Seems interesting.

I don't have on demand. What network is this on?

I love Weeds and Dexter and The Tudors.

It's on AMC. They had a marathon last weekend. Maybe they'll keep showing it in a loop before the new season starts.

I've heard good things about Dexter. Maybe I'll start a thread about Showtime shows, since I have the channel now.

Probably not though. Unless I get really bored.

The on-screen guide leaves a bit to be desired, so I couldn't figure out when the new episode was going to come on, but I heard an ad for it this morning on the radio.

New ep, Sunday night at 10 on AMC. :eager:

You people are EVIL. Now I am watching my way through the On Demand season. This is so, so wrong. I had been trying to figure out why the pg woman was SO familiar.

Also, it's all liv's fault. A week ago, I had never even heard of this thing.
