I am approximately as surprised by that as I am by Catholics rallying around abusive priests. For whatever reason, (successful) college football coaches, at some schools, get elevated to the same sort of respected mentor status in the community as a priest.

Ug. I ended up hearing about it on the car radio, but there was/is a program of sports that's sort of a summer camp program at the University in question. Also it's a pretty poor area, according to the caller with few resources for entertaining young children, so the pools and sports program was very popular.
Understandably a lot of parents who took kids to this program are re-thinking their parenting decisions.
I know I'm rethinking the Christian college's program of neighborhood children involvement in our area. They send a lot of student teachers to local schools and since they expanded their sports fields are advertising that neighbors can apply to use the facilities.

I read the grand jury testimony last night. Sandusky had set up a charity to rehabilitate disengaged boys. He had some sleep over at his house, took others to Penn State and molested eight. Eight that are known about. He set up this charity (and raised millions of dollars) so that he could have a pool of boys to rape. He's slime and everyone who is complicit in covering it up is slime.
And that is why the title of this thread is slime. Because it glosses over what happened at that university and shifts the focus onto the greater tragedy of some fucking coach being fired. For hiding the activities of a paedophile. But take heart thedoc, you are not alone in your outrage. This is what some students and fans did when Joe Pa got himself fired.

For the record, I really don't care that Joe-pa got fired, I do care that young boys were molested, and I hope that those responsable are held accountable. But I prefer that proper legal procedures are followed, so that they are put away, and do not get off because of some technicality. Those students who are rioting are probably good recrutement material for the KKK, extremely narrow minded and stupid.

Yesterday you were all about innocent until proven guilty and JoePa having to act within the limits of the law and how the press was crucifying everyone involved. You wouldn't even answer when I asked if you would have reported the incident to the police rather than just to your superiors.
Now all of the sudden you say there was "definitely" a cover-up, that you don't care that Paterno was fired and everyone should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and rot in jail. Why the change?
