I'm rather shocked, but apparently the complaints about nude scans have actually had an effect. TSA to Phase Out Rapiscan's 'naked scanners'

I'm not sure why the U.S. news organizations don't seem to be reporting it, though. Wonder if the Flint one will be gone by the time I fly next week.

Is it actually named "Rapiscan"? I thought that was a joke until I clicked on the link.

TSA admits in leaked document "no evidence of terrorist plots against aviation in the US"
Quote:
The information revealed, which I may now comment on since a third party has made it publicly available, is devastating to the TSA’s argument that virtually strip-searching the public using its $1B nude body scanner fleet, as well as literally putting their hands in the pants of travelers during full-body pat-downs, is necessary to prevent airplanes from dropping out of the sky at the hands of terrorists. In 2011, the year after the scanners became primary screening, TSA intelligence officials concluded that “terrorist threat groups present in the Homeland are not known to be actively plotting against civil aviation targets or airports.”

The TSA has a lot of explaining to do, both to members of Congress and to the general public, all of whom were misled as to the threat we face and the justification for the most intrusive searches ever performed on the public at large in the United States in the history of this great nation. The terrorists that the TSA has made the country fear, it admits, do not actually exist.
So in other words, it's been misleading people about the risk of terrorist attacks in order to justify expensive machinery and invasive searches. Quelle surprise.

Bump!
A former TSA agent admits they know the potentially dangerous radiation machines taking nude pictures of you were complete crap at doing their actual job and as like so many things in Washington were a scam for 'consulting' kickback.
Confessions of a former TSA officer
Confessions"They're s---," he said, shrugging. He said we wouldn't be able to distinguish plastic explosives from body fat and that guns were practically invisible if they were turned sideways in a pocket.

We quickly found out the trainer was not kidding: Officers discovered that the machines were good at detecting just about everything besides cleverly hidden explosives and guns. The only thing more absurd than how poorly the full-body scanners performed was the incredible amount of time the machines wasted for everyone.

...Most of my co-workers found humor in the I.O. room on a cruder level. Just as the long-suffering American public waiting on those security lines suspected, jokes about the passengers ran rampant among my TSA colleagues: Many of the images we gawked at were of overweight people, their every fold and dimple on full, awful display...

There were other types of bad behavior in the I.O. room — I personally witnessed quite a bit of fooling around, in every sense of the phrase. Officers who were dating often conspired to get assigned to the I.O. room at the same time, where they analyzed the nude images with one eye apiece, at best. Every now and then, a passenger would throw up two middle fingers during his or her scan, as though somehow aware of the transgressions going on.

But the only people who hated the body scanners more than the public were TSA employees themselves. Many of my co-workers felt uncomfortable even standing next to the radiation-emitting machines we were forcing members of the public to stand inside. Several told me they submitted formal requests for dosimeters, to measure their exposure to radiation. The agency's stance was that dosimeters were not necessary — the radiation doses from the machines were perfectly acceptable, they told us. We would just have to take their word for it. When concerned passengers — usually pregnant women — asked how much radiation the machines emitted and whether they were safe, we were instructed by our superiors to assure them everything was fine.

..."(The useless full body scanners turned out to be lucrative for former U.S. Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff, who "wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post advocating the full-body scanning systems without disclosing that Rapiscan Systems was a client of his [private consulting] firm.") "

TSA failure: Investigators able to smuggle weapons past airport checks in 95 percent of tests - newsnet5.com Cleveland

You know what else this means? There hasn't been any serious terrorist/hijacking threat since the TSA started pretending to do heavy security checks. If there were, they would've succeeded in smuggling weapons (and probably bottles of water too, lolololol) in high enough percentages to cause severe terrorism.

the review determined that despite spending $540 million for checked baggage screening equipment and another $11 million for training since a previous review in 2009, the TSA failed to make any noticeable improvements in that time.
So it met the objective of funnelling money to contractors. And possibly the secondary objective of promoting fear among Americans to support the next legislated theft. Seems like it's running exactly to plan.

Stick a weapon on your nekkid body (or in a orifi) they'd find it for sure.

The key is to travel with a hotty and put your weapons in the carry-on luggage. Then when they're all gathered around the Porno-scan 2000, your stuff goes on by undetected.
