Slate has just posted a map that is sure to have Americans up in arms. They've decided if every state should have a state dessert then they should get to choose it. Peach cobbler for Georgia? C'mon, everyone knows it's chocolate lava cake. Posting link because map is interactive.
United Sweets of America map: A dessert for every state in the country.

Oklahoma = Fried Pies? My grandmother used to make Oklahoma Mud Cake, but I always figured the state dessert was pecan pie.

Oh, phew. The last time I saw one of those state food lists, they tried to give Colorado that bullshit "cowboy cookie." So praise the lord for Maureen Dowd's irresponsible behavior with that weed candy.

PS hahahahahahaha Adem.

On one hand, I do love me some pecan pie. But my very most favorite dessert is peach cobbler. The most criminal thing is no one around here serves it. And to think, the area just went through its peach festivals. I would have never guessed that strawberry shortcake was the official state dessert.

But peach cobbler is so easy to make, bort. You could totally corner the market.

Also I had pumpkin spice latte and frappuccino today.

Hey ding, what's the difference between Oklahoma mud pie and others? I grew up with Mississippi mud pie and that recipe you posted looks close...

One of them is called Oklahoma, the others aren't. Actually, I have no idea.

Iowa got cherry pie? They don't even grow cherries in Iowa. I guarantee they are importing their pie cherries from Michigan. Still, if I had chosen I would have gone with a Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff for Michigan. Tell me this picture doesn't make you hungry.

Cherries are too grown in Iowa. :rollpin:

On our first 4th of July here in Iowa we picked cherries (with the owners permission) from a tree a block from the church and made a couple of delicious cherry pies.

All I can say to this is, what the fuck, Oregon? You are supposed to be open-minded up there.

Maybe the Oregon people are challenging books full of hate speech or something

Oh, foo.

I looked it up on my tablet, but can't find it right away. The upshot, though, as I recall it, was that Oregon requires libraries to report challenges, which is unusual; and the only two I saw that were actually followed up on were a book by Horatio Alger because he was a pedophile, and Little Black Sambo for being racist, and they were both moved out of the children's sections. Little Black Sambo went to some kind of special Jim Crow museum or collection or something, and Horatio Alger just went to the adult section.

Good for Oregon for making libraries report. Challenges are woefully under-reported. Lord knows my library never reported the challenge that the director caved to, which is a sore subject that would only make me rant.

Yeah, I was actually surprised at how few there are if they're reporting them all.

BTW, I done found it again (PDF), and I remembered some stuff wrong. And only 12 complaints (plus a couple repeated ones for classroom assignments) is not terrible for a whole state.

This is my favorite:

Quote:
After being charged a
missing/damage fee in 2013 a
public library patron requested
reconsideration. Reason: anti-
family & offensive language.
Library Board decided to retain and
library staff replaced the DVD.
Ha ha, they stole it and only complained about the content after they got fined.

I did not know Horatio Alger was a pedophile. Guess I justified my existence by learning something new today. :themoreyouknow:
