Re: Miscellany
I read about that days ago, but only now did I realize it happened in Michigan. That's seems an odd symptom of the internet. I'm so used to hearing stories from all over the place, that I don't even notice when one is in my neighborhood, or at least my sister's neighborhood.

Re: Miscellany
TheNamelessDoll at Tumbler likes to re-do the features of women from animated features to make their proportions more realistic.
Here she has re-done Anna and Elsa so that their eyes aren't so freakishly huge, and their faces look more like those of young women, rather than infants. Personally, I think that both characters look better with somewhat more realistic faces. (Though it's a little odd to see Disney characters whose eyes don't cover half their faces.)

Odd proportions are one way to help prevent the uncanny valley. I have a hard time watching animations with very true to life features...makes me feel kind of motion sick (don't know a better term than that)

Re: Miscellany
I probably should have posted this earlier, but I saw it at night and didn't think about it. But it's awesome and needs to be seen.

Re: Miscellany
HAY GUESS WHAT GUISE? The new neighbor (who replaced the neighbor who stabbed the dog,[who replaced the folks with massive marital problems that would only fight outside]((who replaced the neighbors who sold the wrong kind of drugs and had sketchy customers)){who replaced the 35 year old guy who dated highschoolers}) just got carted away in handcuffs. There is currently 3 cop cars, 1 fire engine, and 1 ambulance outside.
Gratuitous use of incorrect punctuation. Sorry.

Memo to self: Neighbors who don't mow the lawn for a month are not that bad at all.

That's us Though in our defense we'd been cutting a deal with the next door neighbor for the price of a lawn service and she's moved out and that means I have to fix the lawnmower. Needs carburetor work, I think.

Re: Miscellany
I actually went more than a month a couple summers ago while my mower was in the shop - twice. I got a single mow out of it in between. I have a service now, though, and they come every week because they need the money. I don't mind much, but it does make it more obvious when the neighbors don't. Especially since, for no reason I am aware of, my guys mow a foot or so of the neighbors lawn next to my driveway. I suppose it might technically be part of my property, but we've never treated it that way.

Get some of that artificial turf that is used in some sports arenas. Never needs cutting and can't die.

Re: Miscellany
Apparently, that's a thing in Toronto. However, it's also illegal. When I was driving there last week I heard a story about a former council member who wants the law changed so she can keep her fake lawn.

Re: Miscellany
In Arizona a lot of property owners have replaced their lawns with desert landscaping. It is attractive, uses much less water and is low maintanance. I don't see why they couldn't do something similar in Canada. Just leave the snow on the yard all year round.

Re: Miscellany
A new rival to the TimeCube website!
This one has lots to commend it:
- Triangles
- Warning! Music plays
- Pathetically slow loading. Yeah it does get from 439/440 to 440/440 if you're patient enough - but locks your browser up while you're waiting...
- Cleverly designed layout so that navigation to other pages on the site is difficult or impossible
- Triangles FTW
- Walls of text
- Did I mention the triangles?

Duly warned, I opened it in a separate browser instance. Which proceeded to give me a "flash is not responding" message.
And then ... a spinning wall of acid-trip mahjong tiles. Awesome!

Re: Miscellany
Yeah - you can click on any one of those mahjong tiles to get some triangle-filled graphics. You have to click on the (blank) title bar of the resulting "window" before you can go back to viewing the tiles out-of-order, or if you want to access one of the other links on the parent page.
There may be other hidden ways to navigate the site that I've not discovered so far...
