Re: What's up with you?
Man, KA, that is the suck. I went through kinda the same thing almost eight years ago. We had celebrated 10 years together, he was acting strange so I could tell something was up, etc. There are differences but hey, this ain't about me.
But I tell ya, it was great to have this bunch of nuts to vent to. If that's your thing, if it helps you to write this crap out in order to deal, this is where you should come. We're good listeners.

Some people have delicate constitutions and may faint right out of they chairs at the very mention of something like scrapple! That is why so.

Re: What's up with you?
Scrapple is made from the floor sweepings in the butcher shop, hence the "scrap" in the name.
If you were to order scrapple from Amazon you would probably get a message like this following your order.
Other people who ordered this also ordered the following items:
Head Cheese
Souse
Pressed Chicken
Blood Sausage
Pickled Pigs' Knuckles
Hominy Grits

You are WRONG, good sir! Spam is covered in gelatinous goo, not made of it! Spam is the same ham scraps, carefully pressed together into pretend salt and meat, and NOT glued together with corn juice and sawdust.

Re: What's up with you?
So, this morning I can't seem to sleep past 5:30. This is nothing unusual, so I just get my shower and such. At right around 6 am, I'm done in the bathroom and open the door. There's a loud WHOOSH somewhere nearby, and I know it's too loud to be the sprinklers outside. Turns out that the hot-water supply line to the sink in the bathroom by the laundry room has broken right at the nut that connects to the shutoff valve. But it's not flooding the laundry room, oh no, that would be too simple. Since the fambly room is on the slab, unlike the rest of the house that's raised, all the water is shooting diagonally across and out of the laundry room, and pooling up down there. Right next to the TV cabinet with a shitload of electronics plugged in.
I get the valve shut off okay; at least the plumbing was decent enough to bust in a spot that could be conveniently turned off right before the leak. It's further fortunate that this shit happened while I was home -- I don't even want to think about the Waterworld scenario that would have been otherwise. But now it's 6am, my wife is out of town on a business trip, and I have a fambly room with gallons of water to mop up. My brain is still trying to process how fucked I am as I'm grabbing a couple of mops from the garage like a dumbass. I quickly realize that I can't squeeze the mops fast enough, and what I need is a shitload of towels. I grab said shitload and go to work.
Luckily, the pools don't go ALL the way under the TV cabinet and are not contacting the power strip. (Strip woulda been underwater if I hadn't been there.) I get that shit unplugged anyway, and the rest is sopping up water with sodden towels and squeezing them into a bucket. Over and over, for close to an hour. It's a large room, so only about a third was affected, but I dumped the bucket at half-full a good 5 times.
And yes, I was fully in my Kafka Inc. uniform (tieless dress shirt and slacks) when I had to dive into the deluge. So I had that going for me.
What with Mrs. Puppet out of town and today being All The Meetings Day, I had to take LP to my Mom's at 7:30 am to make my first meeting at 8. I just got back from running home at lunch to check the step down to the fambly room, which is the only part that's still carpeted, for seepage since I had no time to fuck with that this morning. Not too bad, at least.
So yeah, I'm kind of a , is what I'm saying.

As far as I know, Bort, you have never freaked out and activated the emergency phone tree because I went on vacation before. Do you need hysterical prevention too?

Re: What's up with you?
NYC is awesome! I only have one tip, which is go for a ride on the Staten Island Ferry, even if you have no plans to visit the island. It's free, you get incredible views the whole trip (statue of liberty, "freedom" tower) and it takes off and lands from Battery Park which is all old and New Amsterdam-y.
This is coming from someone who knows very little about how to do that city, but that is one of the things I learned.

Re: What's up with you?
What if I have some kind of moral-philosophical emergency and you're not here to tell me what to do? (You know, like you told me you would.)
That's it, then. I'm done relying on unreliable humangs. I'm declaring myself a full Pibbleologist. Next time I'm in a quandry, I'm going to ask myself WWZZD*?
