Re: Alton Brown Sucks
Oddly enough, I don't drool over Rachel Ray, but I do over Alton Brown. And I'm not at all gay, except for this one thing...oh and Bob Costas.

What it is, is that in addition to being dreamy. Both these guys know their shit. And they aren't condescending about it.
Dreamy, smart and polite. What more could a girl want?

Hubby also drools over Alton Brown, and he couldn't be less gay if he tried. You are not alone.

Re: Alton Brown Sucks
Not too long ago.
Ok, and as I recall lisarea told us all who we should and shouldn't like there as well:
Alton Brown
Rachel Ray for 30-min meals for $40 a day
Sandra Lee
It's good for me to look these things up, because it is quite foolhardy to disagree with lisarea in a communication environment hosted on the Internets.

Man, I should look those things up, too, because now I am disagreeing with my own self. I might implode like a super-logical robot!
Anyways, you think the internets are bad. I once had an argument with a friend in which I took the position, "No. You do not think Tom Cruise is hot." Basically, my argument hinged on the fact that Tom Cruise is objectively repulsive, and if I weren't so damned busy and important, I could totally prove it with science.
In my defense, the same friend once argued with me, taking the position that I not only was not wearing mascara at the time, but that I also never did, and that I was just trying to act like a big shot or something. She made me have to smear it off with my fingers and everything, "Oh, yeah? Well, WHAT'S THIS, then? HUH? HUH?"
I know. It's hard to believe I have a friend, isn't it?

In the interest of full disclosure, her response was, "an eye booger."

Re: Alton Brown Sucks
My uncle sharpens his knives on Thanksgiving. I learnt this last month when I was at his house for, um... Thanksgiving. But I mean, what a cool way to remember when to do it, right? Plus you're probably going to have your knives all out on that day anyway.

I haven't trued or sharpened my knives in the couple years I've had them, and they need it bad. Where should I take them?

I disagree, well sort of. Sharpening isn't that tricky and doesn't need to be done by a professional. Truing can be done with a stone in the same way the steel swordy thingy effects the blade. Handheld knife sharpeners are bad for good blades as they can screw up the bevel/give a secondary bevel. Electric sharpeners not only remove material but often remove a lot more material than necessary really reducing the blade life.
On the other hand sharpening of some knives like a chopper is best done by a professional to keep the nice apple-seed edge (one commonly seen on swords (note this is coming from sword/knife experience not chef or foody experience)).

Growing up in NYC, there used to be a guy who would go door to door who would do it. I don't think they do that anymore.

Hmmm, sounds like a career opportunity.

Re: Alton Brown Sucks
i'm deeply saddened by the existance of this thread. alton brown was one of the reasons i became a chef; he showed me there were people out there who approached cooking the same way i did, and thus gave me hope of actually having a career in the field.
more from me later.

Don't worry, mezza, our minds are not controlled as it may appear. Alton Brown totally rocks. Maybe lisarea is jealous because he looks better wearing mascara than she does.
p.s. I'd like your comments on the Food Network celebs I listed in the post above too!

Step 3. Profit
Anyway, anyone who is actually paying attention might make note that I am not actually saying that Alton Brown sucks, as much as I might like to hit on that "Alton Brown sucks" phrasing. I don't like the skits, but the real objection I have is to certain elements of his fan base.
But I will pray for anyone who is 'saddened' by the existence of a thread called "Alton Brown sucks."

Re: Alton Brown Sucks
I saw a couple of minutes of Alton Brown yesterday while channel surfing. He said that you could buy one of those French cone-shaped seives for about $90.00 or you could use a colander with some cheesecloth pegged to it for about 90c. I decided right then and there that I liked him.
STICKY PINK LATEX HOT FREE ALTON BROWN CAN'T POSSIBLY SUCK ASIAN PUPPIES ON CRACK SLUTS!!!1!
