I'd guess it's related to gonzo journalism more than the muppet, but I'm not sure exactly how. Gonzo journalism is a more personalized style, originating with Hunter S. Thompson. It's less removed from its subject than traditional journalism and more a first person narrative, with the journalist playing an active role. I don't understand why it would take that specific form, unless it's geared toward HR and hiring managers, or at least done in a style where the interviewer is also doing the filming and directing as part of the action.

Or for animal breeding - do we need the mare's consent to allow the stud access to her?, etc.

If you want to argue against those, that's fine. But if not, it seems inconsistent to require consent for the one and not for the other.
