This has just been dropped in my inbox .......

Here is the message that has just been posted:

I cooked a steak today in the frying pan with olive oil, garlic, and black pepper. I severly misoverestimated the time it would take to cook thru such a thick steak and it came out way overly done. I'm a rare/medium-rare steak eater, so a well done steak broke my heart today. :( Oh well, I still have 3 more in the fridge to experiment with. I'm out of preparation ideas for them, though.

Also I had a shitload of steamed carrots with it.

Hi!

I can't work out where it came from but perhaps a brisket "Sunday dinner" has something to do with my wits ...

Any road up ....

We've had the brisket at three meals now...

First time it was tough :(

I fried it (in beef tallow) and tried to use the vegetable "water" to make gravy.

The beef wes tough but the meal was O.K

I decided that nothing beat my old pressure cooker and made the same meal again using my 2006 bought pressure cooker. :(

It didn't get up to pressure :( ( I had to microwave the meat in some hopes of palatability) the meal was enjoyable despite the "chewy" meat.....

This evening I dug out my "real" pressure cooker. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

There was browning (burnt sugar) sea salt, garlic and cornflour (thickening) in the final onion gravy ( not to mention the meat juices and some extra beef tallow)

The potatoes (unpeeled) were washed, microwaved and deep-fried (with the little parsnips) in lard :cheer:)

To cut a long (and enjoyable) story short.....

WOW!!!

The meat was tasty and tender! The gravy was delicious!

The broccoli, carrot, green beans, mushrooms, sweet pepper and celery that went in the "veggies" and the gravy were gorgeous :)

From the post, I think the "shitload of carrots" got to me most.

Food is fun! (especially when you get the preparation right!)

J.

I'm thinking about making burritos tonight, but I'm also trying to talk myself into going the lower-calorie route of eggs and toast and fruit.

I'm thinking of making chili tonight, but if I'm going to do it, I need to get started right now. It's best if its simmered for a couple hours to allow the spicy stuff to spread throughout all the ingredients. Oh, nevermind, we'll probably order Papa John's pizza.

I was thinking of a breakfast burrito, but the way I make them they have even more calories than a regular burrito. :hungry:

Thin sliced steak, fried up with Worcester sauce and Lee Kum Kee chili paste (the overall effect is a sweet and mildly spicy BBQ). Spiced potatoes on the side and cornbread.

Very full now, all happy, yes.
