Once, when I was in college, my roommate and I went into a hobby store. I was looking at a model of the
Enterprise (
the Enterprise -- "NCC-1701, no bloody A, B, C, D
or E") when a friend of my roommate's appeared. He and I soon wound up in a conversation about how the
Enterprise appeared significantly more damaged in the opening scenes of
Star Trek III than it had been in the closing scenes of
Star Trek II.
We were pointing to the model and noting, "here's where the
Reliant's first phaser strike was, right in Main Engineering; here's where the torpedo struck the primary hull, right on the main deflector gridding ...".
My roommate later said, "God! It was just like watching the scene in
Star Trek II. I kept waiting for you to say, 'They knew
exactly where to hit us' and for him to reply, 'Who?
Who knew exactly where to hit us? And
why?'!"
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if I put my mind to it, I could recite
Star Trek II in its entirety from memory. It's
still the best
Star Trek film ever made, in my opinion.
Oh, and my roommate (and for that matter, several of our mutual friends) was
constantly referring to me as "Spock." I can't imagine why. ...
Cheers,
Michael
