Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
Erick Erickson is kind of a big deal among the conservative blogosphere or whatever, because he founded RedState.com
He goes on the TVs and shit.
One thing I can say in his favor, which is about the only thing I can say in his favor, is that he and RedState are #nevertrump and seem to be sticking to their guns on that.
That quote about the face is actually Trump talking about Carly Fiorina. Given that they're #nevertrump, it is almost certainly meant as evidence of why Trump is unacceptable as a candidate, not an endorsement of the quote.

Indeed, I was saying it all reads like parody but isnt.
Like that quote could easily have been a parody or support for Trump just as much as anti trump.

For the longest time, when I'd hear his name, I'd get really confused thinking they were talking about this guy.
I eventually internalized the fact that almost nobody is ever talking about that guy.

I've seen him referred to as Erick "Erick" Erickson for extra lulzy emphasis.

That's all aside from the more general question of why anybody would ever have any legitimate purpose for using a 'military grade assault weapon with multiple oversized ammunition magazines' anywhere other than in the hands of battle-engaged military personnel.
ETA: Hmmm...It seems I ran across what I thought was a Jim Wright (Stonekettle Station) post about how the source gun shop was run by a former New York police officer, and avowed Islamofascist hater, who in the recent past has posted some rather nasty claims about what he thought should happen to the President. A frothing Obama-hater. Interesting.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
Man...I gotta admire the restraint. But then, maybe it is way too early. The grief is still strong.
But...If I was part of a community which had as many of its members, that is friends, acquaintances, lovers, neighbors...gunned down like that. I'd probably be looking to have drinks with Vyacheslav at the gunstore.
But then, it's not my community....I'm not gay, and I'm physically located on the opposite of the continent. I know none of the victims or their grieving friends, lovers, family, or neighbors. It's probably all a good thing. But it sure doesn't feel that way.

Mississippi HB 1523 blocked by Judge Carlton Reeves.
Can some legal-type person give us an idea on what this could mean for setting a precedent?

I'll let the Esquires opine on the precedent question. I just want to say that this is an awesome bit of brutally honest takedown:
Quote:
The text and history of HB 1523, Reeves writes, clearly “indicate that the bill was the State’s attempt to put LGBT citizens back in their place after Obergefell.”

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
Even before the Hobby Lobby decision was handed down from the Supreme Court, people were predicting that it would be used to justify discrimination. Indeed, Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dissent predicted exactly that.
Ginsburg has, of course, now been vindicated. If I were a bookmaker I’d probably give better than 50% odds of this decision being overturned by a higher court, but the fact that it’s happened at all is infuriating as fuck.
Bonus stupid shit from Rush Limbaugh that we can all at.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
EEOC v. R.G. & G.R. Funeral Home, Inc.
Who could have ever predicted that when SCOTUS used the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to grant certain employers, specifically closely held corporations and their owners, a religious exemption from complying with a federal law (a provision of the Affordable Care Act) that other closely-held corporate employers would successfully argue that RFRA mandates granting them a religious exemption from the sex discrimination provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
Well, pretty much everyone predicted exactly that. The employee in the R.G. case was a pre-op transsexual who wanted to live as a woman in advance of surgery and asked the employer for permission to comply with the company's dress code for women. Are there other potential applications of Hobby Lobby in the Title VII context? Maybe so!
The dark people: "Oh no, we can't hire you. You're a colored, ya see, and the Lord says that coloreds and regular people must remain separate at all times."
Wimminz: "Susan, we're cutting your pay by 75% and increasing your hours by 25 per week. God told me in a dream that bitches be crazy and must not be paid anything close to what a man makes."
Other religious folk: "Derrick, I just found out you're affiliated with the Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879. I'm with the Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912. GTFO and never come back, you filthy heretic."
