The US version of that map would be very different and very boring.

I don't think that means capital, or Salt Lake has 5 of them.

I wonder what criteria were used to decide which cities would be the capitals.

Since frag posted this I have been browsing through that site, and contemplating posting nearly every map.

The site's disappointing in that it gives very little analysis and never any links to the data. Not even qualifiers on how many people were surveyed, when, and whether it was a reasonably random sample.

NEVERTHELESS.

World map by rectangular approximations of country area - Vivid Maps

Then we have this:

What is your country the best at? - Vivid Maps

South Africa is best at death - seems reasonable.
Mongolia - velociraptors!
Britain - billionaires - whut? USA - spam emails - not really from Nigeria then?

Sadly, "very small countries excluded", for a totally unreasonable definition of "very small".

---
Wait, more up to date data from the original site

Because Every Country Is the Best at Something — Information is Beautiful

Quote:
CORRECTIONS & UPDATES
» South Africa changed from Death to number 1 for Platinum (reason: more recent data just released)
» Canada upgraded to ‘personal freedom’ from ‘Facebook addiction’ (reason: better source)

PLEASE NOTE
If your country is not on the image, it’s either because
a) we couldn’t fit it in
b) we couldn’t find something your nation is the best at (sorry!)
With a link to the data: International Number Ones: 2016 - PUBLIC

So the French are really whiskey drinking surrender monkeys instead of wine drinking surrender monkeys.

It's the gender ratio.

UAE's population is the most male, Latvia's is the most female.

At first I thought UK getting billionaires meant the cookie, which would be appropriate. Then I remembered the cookies are called millionaires. I prefer the cookies to the toffs.

When we Euros and anglo North Americans think Columbia, our impressions are 25 years out of date. They've really cleaned up their act, Ecuador too. Last I heard, they and Nicaragua were two nations that used to be hell holes of crime but they both asked the Americans for help with police training and have really improved.

Note to self: avoid Swaziland, South Africa, and Honduras.

Places to consider for retirement: Costa Rica, Colombia, and Paraguay.
