I bought a piping set but haven't used it yet - I'll give it a try if we do Christmas cookies.

I was gonna start a poll but starting threads doesn’t seem to produce much interest. So I’ll ask the question here. I saw this on one of those goofy Facebook things. I’m in a soup group and someone posed the question: if ONE holiday side had to go what would it be:

Green bean casserole

Yams or sweet potatoes

Macaroni and cheese

Mashed potatoes

Stuffing

Corn casserole

Strawberry pretzel salad. ( which I have been told by a black girlfriend of mine is primarily a white person thing)

I say: YAMS. Yuck keep those away from me

I never heard of a Strawberry Pretzel Salad. Don't even want to.

Can't say I've heard of a Corn Casserole, either, so, I dunno.

I'm good with all they other stuff, as long as the Mac and cheese didn't come in a box.

I've never heard of Strawberry Pretzel Salad but after googling it, it doesn't look all that bad. It's definitely not a salad, more like a dessert bar.

I'd ditch the mac and cheese. I'm betting the corn casserole is corn scallop, and that's pretty damn tasty.

I agree with the mac n cheese it has to be homemade or forget it.

Corn casserole is a Midwest thing my sis in law makes it . It’s spaghetti noodles cream corn and regular corn mixed with butter and cheese.

Our family is really big on the fatty shit. My husband calls my brother and sis in law the Buttertons.

It'll just be my (very, VERY white) octogenarian mom 'n' stepdad, other than us, on Xmas proper. I'm doing an easy, pre-spiral-cut ham, stuffing from a mix even though there's no turkey, and mashed taters (real ones boiled 'n' mashed 'n' seasoned, not that powdery boxed shit, even though they might actually like that better). Plus a salad, probably spinach-dominant. Maw brings the green bean casserole, because that's extremely difficult to screw up. Yams if Mrs. Puppet wants 'em, not my thing.

Totally agree on the taters. NEVER instant. I think that is true of stuffing, too. Even though I usually do instant stuffing. My brother does it up right and he is the cook in the family

Oh and vre it’s similar to cor scallop but in my opinion not nearly as good. It’s just that my kids have basically grown up on Aunt Kim’s corn casserole that I can’t waver from the recipe. At least not till I have grandbabes of my own.

It's only ever instant when you've been hiking for a few hours into the wilderness. Then it's not only acceptable as a low weight option but weirdly amazing.

We're going out to dinner at a fancy pants place for Christmas. It's just going to be the two of us, and neither of us wanted to make a big dinner.
