They couldn't get any House members or state legislators to run for the CO senate seat?

There was never any shortage of Republican candidates, but the quality of those candidates was for the most part breathtakingly low.

Keyser, the Air Force guy with the incompetent/fraudulent petition circulators, was a member of the state house of representatives. He gave up that job to run for Senate.

Malevolent wingnut Tim Neville, a state senator, was a prohibitive favorite to qualify for the ballot at the party's state convention. Darryl Glen kicked Neville's ass. Neville only got 18% of the delegate votes, way short of the 30% he needed. Neville was so sure of making the ballot via the convention route that he didn't both to do any petitioning. So yeah, happy trails, Timmeh.

Four of our seven U.S. House of Reps members are Republican, but none is a viable Senate candidate. Ken Buck ran against Bennet for the same Senate seat back in 2010 and lost. He's since garnered a House seat in a safe red district, and he isn't going anywhere.

Mike Coffman has virtually no appeal outside his own district. In addition, the House subcommittee he chairs has presided over the multibillion-dollar cost overruns associated with the construction of a new VA hospital in the Denver area. He'll be lucky to hang onto his House seat.

Scott Tipton is kinda stupid, and he's also an unabashed oil and gas industry whore. That shit doesn't play well with voters along the Front Range, where the population is the highest. No way this guy wins a statewide election.

Doug Lamborn is arguably the worst elected official in the state at any level. A relative newcomer beat him like an ugly redheaded stepchild, and got within 18 votes of keeping Lamborn off the ballot altogether. Lamborn is a hothouse flower with no chance of surviving at all outside his heavily Republican district.

The one potential candidate with proven ability to win a statewide election was Cynthia Coffman, the state attorney general. Trouble is, she's a bit too chummy with racist wingnut/former congressman Tom Tancredo. Last year Tancredo got all pissed off at Steve House, who chairs the state Republican party, because House refused to give one of Tancredo's cronies a job in the party. Coffman and Tancredo summoned House to a meeting and told House to resign or they'd go public with accusations that House was whoring around on his wife. House immediately went to the press with his version of how the meeting went, and within a week the state's party's executive committee unanimously adopted a resolution supporting House. That pretty much killed any possibility of a Coffman Senate run.

------------------------

Oh, and that Keyser guy just keeps finding ways to make things worse. Anytime he's asked about the fraudulent signatures on his petitions, he says "The important thing is I'm on the ballot, and I'm going to beat Michael Bennet." He says the exact same shit over and over no matter how many follow-up questions he gets.

Yesterday, that teevee reporter who broke the 10-forged-signatures story cornered Keyser after a Republican senate candidates debate. The results were ... I mean ... wtf I don't even.

Jon Keyser is now receiving some rather savage beat-downs at the hands of Rachel Maddow and Samantha Bee. It's all nationwide now since this is the only U.S. Senate seat the Republicans have (had?) any chance of picking up this year.

Okay, so the U.S. Senate candidacy of Jon Keyser has been done-zo ever since this forged petition signatures thing came to light. Hell, it was probably done-zo well before then due to the general incompetence of Keyser and his campaign staff.

But damn, the story just continues to get weirder and more jacked up. The number of forged signatures on Keyer's Congressional District 1 petitions is now up to 13, which is significant since his signature cushion in that district was only 20.

And now we find out that staffers in the Secretary of State's office knew about the possibility of forged signatures on Keyser's petitions A MONTH AGO. What they did with that knowledge was ... nothing. The staffers in question couldn't even be fucked to tell Wayne Williams about it, Williams being the Secretary of State and all. When Williams found out, he ordered his underlings to turn everything over to the District Attorney's office.

To top it all off, at least one of the petition "signers" was a corpse. This particular petition circulator, who should go to jail for quite some time, is apparently a fan of old school Cook County, Illinois tactics.

But Keyser's staying in the race, goddammit, and blaming the "liberal media" for harassing him. None of those fuckers is "jumping out of the bushes" to ask incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet a bunch of embarrassing questions! :glare:

The latest developments are available here via Mike Littwin of the Colorado Independent. The article also features a photo of Keyser and the dog with which he threatened TV reporter Marshall Zellinger.

After careful deliberation the committe has decided to close all polling places not down hill from a white cemetary. For Voter security a truck that smells of brains will drive around the black cemetaries in circles. A new ballot counting measure will be taken into account, drool next to a name counts as a vote. Both us here at the RNC and our candidate Kevin Sizzlebrain want this to be a fair election.

Now that the story is national and the NAACP and even some Republicans have demanded a resignation, Sorenson has issued the Greatest Apology of All Time, quoted here by Ernie Luning of the Colorado Statesman:

Quote:
It appears that someone I didn’t know tagged me in a Facebook post with a silly comparison to Barack Obama. I confess to ‘liking’ a tired old Facebook meme, and I apologize for my bad judgment.

When confronted on the spot by a liberal blogger, I was busy and didn’t realize the game that was being played—the ‘gotcha’ game. The ‘gotcha’ game is fun only for those who intend to ruin a person’s name, reputation, and position of leadership. For anyone else who has been through the cycle, they can tell you how ridiculous and nasty the game is. From one moment to the next, I’m national news.

The vitriol and hatred that has been directed at me has been nothing short of stunning. But anyone paying attention these days knows that the left is only about tolerance when they are demanding that YOU tolerate their latest nutty idea, and if you don’t like it, then you’re automatically a ‘hater,’ a ‘bigot,’ and a ‘racist.’

I admit to saying to the blogger that; “I don’t care if you’re offended,” however I do care very much if anyone else was offended. Please forgive me for being insensitive and not thinking of others in the heat of the moment.

I believe one of the greatest things about America is that we are to be judged on the content of our character not the color of our skin.
@"I apologize, not for being a racist pig but for my 'bad judgment' in displaying my racist piggery so publicly. Also, fuck you 'gotcha' journalists and you dumbfuck lefties who want tolerance but don't have the goddamn common decency to tolerate me comparing the black POTUS to a chimp."

Will Sorenson resign her post? "Not so fast," says state GOP chair Steve House. She'll "take responsibility" for what she did, whatever that means. What the party needs is racial sensitivity training.

Where "racial sensitivity training" = "Hey, it's A-OK that you look down on the porch monkeys. Hell, in Delta County it's pretty much mandatory. Just stfu about it on social media plzkthx."

Republicans don't get to have ALL the fraud-committin' fun here in lolorado, no sir!

Eric Nelson is a Democratic candidate for a seat in the state House of Representatives. He currently holds a different public office, namely member of the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education.

And he's a complete fraud. Dude's lied about his education, his military background and his criminal record. He was denied a bail bondsman's license based on failure to disclose criminal conviction history.

When challenged about his educational background Nelson came up with this here diploma. Note that the name of the university is misspelled in the university's official seal. There are other issues with Nelson's claims regarding his education, but that's the lulziest.

Dems all over the state are calling for Nelson not only to drop out of the House race but also to resign from the Aurora School Board. Nelson is having none of that, and he's doubled down on everything.

Come November, us Loloradans will be voting on Amendment 69, which would establish a statewide single-payer healthcare system funded with a hefty tax increase. NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado recently announced its opposition to Amendment 69. Their opposition is based on provision of the state constitution approved by voters in 1984 that prohibits spending public funds on abortions. The concern is that a massive public healthcare system would effectively reduce access to abortions.

In the current spectacularly toxic political environment, no one really wants to support Amendment 69. The current Democratic governor, the former Democratic governor, and the current Democratic U.S. Senator (to name but a few) have all come out against it. Word around the campfire is that NARAL's opposition will give other Democratic officeholders who already oppose Amendment 69 privately a reason for opposing the amendment publicly.

El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn won the Republican U.S. Senate primary yesterday. He'll face incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet in November.

Glenn is a "full retard" climate denier, asserting there's no climate change at all, much less human-caused climate change. He's also lovingly referred to Donnie Dump as a "patriot."

Bennet's seat was once considered close to easy pickins for the Republicans. But now, following the conclusion of a disastrously train-wrecky GOP primary, the Senate Leadership Fund Republican super PAC currently plans to spend exactly $0.00 of its $40 million on the lolorado U.S. Senate race. However, Bennet's capacity for fucking up knows few bounds, so I'm not breathing any sighs of relief just yet.

And now, grudging props to Colorado Republicans for fielding two black U.S. Senate candidates who combined to take 46% of the vote in a 5-way race. There are very few states in which that could happen in a GOP Senate primary. In addition, over 25% of Republicans voted for Jack Graham, a socially liberal RINO.

Make no mistake -- the GOP is the party of hate, here included. Still, it's substantially better here than it is in other parts of the country.

In other news, fraudster Eric Nelson got butchered like a hog in his Democratic state house of representatives primary. There's a move under way to get Nelson kicked off the Aurora Board of Education as well. Here's hoping it succeeds.

In our part of the state, the only contested primary race us Dems had was for District Attorney. I voted for the chickypoo, but the incumbent dudebro won. :sadcheer:

Before I forget, two openly transgender candidates won major party U.S. House of Representatives primaries yesterday. One is lolorado's own Misty Plowright, who will take on incumbent GOP Rep. Doug Lamborn in November. Lamborn is buffonishly incompetent on every goddamn level, but his congressional district is about as safely red as it gets.

That's just the gotcha media trying to push their own narrative. Everyone knows, you can ask anyone, the truly tremendous crowd (he has all the best crowds) all the people there were so excited that they packed themselves closer to the stage - sitting in each other's laps and on their... wherevers... - that it just looks like the venue is half empty.

You make a good point, Bort. Besides, Dump supporters were probably exhausted from participating in the rally on the steps of the state capitol building that afternoon.

Racist pig Linda Sorenson resigned as Delta County GOP chair last week. No word on what's next for Sorenson, but I have little doubt that the knuckle-walking morons in that part of Lolorado would gladly sent her to the state house of representatives if she asked, especially now that she's added "reverse racism martyr" to her list of wingnut bona-fides.

Back in 1933, Lolorado enacted a law limiting a person or company to one license to sell liquor, wine and full strength beer. That law fostered the growth of a liquor salse industry comprised exclusively of numerous small businesses. The law has long been anathema to large chains such as Safeway and King Soopers, which are limited by law to selling 3.2 beer at all but one of their Lolorado locations.

The grocery store chains every now and again spin up fake grassroots organizations to promote ballot initiatives repealing the above-described law and authorizing companies to obtain as many liquor licenses as they want. This year it was Your Choice Colorado, which organized a massive effort to get the issue before the voters in November.

Legislators were convinced that this year's big grocery efforts would bear fruit. To provide some protection to family-operated liquor stores, the legislature passed Senate Bill 197, which gradually phases out over 20 years the restrictions on the number of licenses a company may obtain. The bill also requires grocery chains to buy out nearby liquor stores before obtaining a new license, and prohibits a holder of multiple licenses from selling at a price below cost for a single license holder. The governor signed the bill into law last month.

The one remaining question was whether the industry would continue pushing for a ballot initiative that would give the industry everything it wants right now. Your Choice Colorado announced on Friday that it was shitcanning the ballot initiative, after having gotten some 85,000 of the 99,000 signatures it would have needed.

There's nothing to prevent the industry from trying again in the future if it decides things aren't changing fast enough, but for now the incremental changes the legislature adopted are safe.
