I’m an avid fan of the book series, seen all the movies including Manhunter with William Peterson which was Red Dragon. I love, love LOVE the pretense of this show.
However, I don’t know what a mafia game is. Maybe I spoke too soon. Will I be able to catch onto this? cause you guys are speaking a language I don't understa d.

You shouldn't have any problems once things get going. You'll likely be faced with some vernacular and specialized acronyms; if you don't understand something just ask. The big key is that if you are town or town aligned you need to be super paranoid. Post often and ask open questions.

In the OP of the game thread I'll lay out some limited data about the game and the first "day" officially begins. Out of a group of players ("the town"), there are a few bad guys ("mafia" or "scum"). They each know who the other scum are. The good guys are mostly innocent "townies" who don't know shit beyond what's written in the OP. Some may have power roles that allow them to protect or investigate, but that stuff happens at night, so on the first day only the bad guys know anything special.

Your job as a townie is to find the scum using whatever information you have. Your job as scum is to kill without getting caught until there are more of you than there are of the good guys. Your job as a town power role is to help the town kill the bad guys and stay alive using whatever tools are at your disposal.

During the day, all the players have to vote for a person they want to kill. Once somebody gets a majority vote, they're lynched and the day ends. Once they're dead, I'll post a death scene and announce who they were.

The night begins. The scum confer and pick someone to kill. Any power roles do their thing. Once all the actions are taken, I'll make a daybreak post where I announce any deaths that occurred overnight. Then the voting commences anew, now with some information from the deaths.

Repeat until either the town wins by killing all the scum or scum win by killing off enough of the town that they can no longer be lynched.

Alright it seems like I'm moving about 11 days from now. This sucks. We can't move into the new place until the current resident moves out and it's taking longer than we thought, even though we're helping (it's my girlfriend's mom).

So I don't know if I'll be ready on the 12th. I will do what I can, but until about the 17th shit will be REALLY sketchy, and I may not be able to post at all depending on our internet installation.

Sorry this is so late but we just had this happen... we were supposed to already be moved by now but this last few days was kind of a disaster, and no one who was supposed to help her move showed up. So we can't move any of our shit yet. You get the idea. It sucks.

Ugh, scheduling issues. Having been there before, I really don't want to start the game when people are going to be out of touch for days. It always turns into such a mess during the daytime discussions.

I'm not sure what to do about it. Postponement until September? That kind of bums me out too, but less than having to negotiate long player silences.

Season one is being released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 24th. (Yes, I already pre-ordered my copy.) Maybe that would be a good choice for a start date.
