Well, as I indicated in a PM you should force the issue. However, the one benefit to "onsite" is that if they figure out the problems then they should fix it there--as in give you a new computer if it is a major problem.

GAAAHHHHHHH!! Also: AAACK! My iMac now seems a bit worse after it's stay at the Apple Store. It has a bunch a new stuff in it, but the display is for shit. It looks like someone set a 5 gallon bucket of slop on the right hand side, among other things. I am just sick about it. What a fucking pain in the ass. :nerdrage:

Dumb Question: did they explain exactly what they did, what display it was replaced with, and did you see the problem with the display in the shop?

I didn't even think to ask to plug it in and turn it on, and they didn't suggest it! Honestly? I assume they check for that kind of thing before they let it go.

ETA: Apple is sending a genius to my house next week to fix it. Of course now I have to clean my house. :-(

Having just gotten off the phone with Bike Specialists™ where I had to have them check to see if the chain is worn, I am not surprised.

I should scream and jump up and down and tell you you should have checked it there but we have all been there--we sort of assume we are not dealing with complete Muppets. Also, I use laptops which make such things easier.

Right . . . you are probably doom'd to take it back. Regarding "worse" do you mean performance? Need specifics. As for the display, can you take a picture of the screen?

I updated my Mac from a G4 to a MacBook. I fire-wired all my stuff over, but Appleworks didn't make it.
I don't understand why they include a free iMovie and a ton of other apps, but no simple word processing application? Jessup, I got the damn thing to write business correspondence on.

That helps. Now kindly provide the following--I will use my example:

Model: MacBookPro 8,1, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM
OS: 10.6.8
Graphics/Displays: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Then explain in detail exactly what is going wrong other than the screen. You mentioned the DVD player is bad. I would hope, if under Apple Care [PBUI--Ed.], they replaced it. Explain any of the other issues.

Show all work.

They replaced the optical drive and the hard drive. That's all cool.

nothing else that I know of yet.

So I put the computer to sleep and went to go watch a movie. Came back and the computer screen looked great, so I thought, "hmmmm, maybe I won't have to clean house after all!"

But, after being on for a few minutes, the lines and blotchiness came back.

Well, forgive me if you have answered this a million times in the past, but are you "newish" to Apple?

If you are, I would recommend downloading the free program Onyx. Run it about once a month. It will take care of cleaning caches and the like which will make the computer run optimally.

Next, I need your specifics. I can ask "My People" about the screen but they may ask me, "well, if it is a ____ chip then BLORG!!!1!!I AM LIVINGPRROOFOFPEACEGIRL!"

No, not new to Apple. Though I have to admit to not having used Onyx before. This is really the first time I've had real problems with any Mac.

I'm just really frustrated that I have no recourse but to take it to a noisy, crowded, overly shiny place that is so far away from me.

There is a weird noise you can ask "your people" about. It started around the time the original hard drive impending failure warning did. It's like a metallic ssshhhhhssss sound. I pointed it out to them when I first brought it in.

The details:
27" iMac, 2.66 GHz, i5, 4 GB RAM, OS 10.6.8

I'm catching shit from people on a Mac forum, because it's my fault for letting it leave the store rather than trusting the repair guys.

If they replaced your hard drive, it's probably not that, but I will put this here anyway because it's pretty cool and can help you with diagnoses sometimes:

Failing hard drive sounds - Datacent.com - Datacent

It's the sounds of different types of hard drives failing in different ways, and it might be able to help you narrow down some kinds of problems.

Weird mechanical sounds almost have to be either a drive or the fan.

I don't know much about the Macs, though. Maybe they have like mechanical RAM or something. Ha ha ha, OMG, they probably do! LOL!

I don't hear my sound in that list. I'm thinking it's the fan, too.

Don't trouble yourself much, Doc. I will let the genius come out here on Monday and take a look. Unless he has a dust-free lab in his vehicle, though, I can't see how he'll fix anything. I have at least 2 more cats, 1 more dog and probably more dust in my house than they have in an Apple Store.

Okay, that is probably easiest.

The sound you hear is most likely the fan. You can confirm that by checking the temperatures of different components of your computer.
