Watch Lady Dynamite Online | Netflix
I loved the shit out of it, but I am biased. I'm a yuge fan of Maria Bamford already, so there's no way I could be objective.
It's great though. It's super meta, of course, and it has people like Dean Cain and Ana Gasteyer and Ed Begley Jr. playing Maria's boyfriend and agent and father, respectively. Plus delightful cameos from Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro.
Just fucking watch it, okay?

Netflix now has Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, based on Douglas Adam's book(s). Loosely based. Still pretty good though.

Which version? There's one currently running on BBC America and one from a few year's back that used to be on Prime.

The BBC America one. Not sure it's on in the US though. The last episode is on BBC America today.

Yeah, I've watched a couple episodes. I think it ended last Saturday. I honestly didn't think either version caught the feel of Douglas Adams.

I watched the film documentary Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World by Werner Herzog, on Netflix.
And you should too.

I liked the BBC America version (haven't seen the British version), but having recently re-read the first two Dirk Gently books, the series certainly does feel quite a bit different from the books. That said, there are enough similarities that it doesn't feel like a complete departure, either. The central theme of the books, that everything is connected, carries over to the TV series and was pulled off as well in the series as it was in the books. The quirky humour is still there, although the TV series gets a lot more humour out of violence than the books do. The anti-authoritarian feel of the books is still there. And the plot is definitely as well constructed in the series as the ones in the books were.
I would definitely recommend the TV series, but don't expect it to feel exactly the same as the books. To be fair, Adams himself constantly revised his own material when adapting it to new media, so I don't exactly regard the new TV series as a sacrilege. It's probably fairly similar to what Adams himself would have done if he'd adapted the series. (It's worth noting that the first novel was itself an adaptation of Adams' script for the unfilmed Doctor Who episode Shada, which explains why Dirk resembles the Doctor and Professor Chronotis is pretty clearly a retired Time Lord. Speaking of which, Samuel Barnett would be a superb choice to play the Doctor if Capaldi leaves.)
Also, Zootopia is on Netflix now and if you haven't seen it, you should. It's pretty much perfect.

Yeah, I thought the BBC America version was pretty good, if I hadn't read the books and just saw the show I definitely would think so. And yeah, I thought it followed the spirit of the books. I have seen the British version too, but it's some time ago and I barely remember it now. Pretty sure this version is better, and if it's not a better version, it is at least a more memorable show.

I watched Zootopia as soon as it popped up on Netflix and was not disappointed. It's one of many things that have made me realize this is the decade where furries are going to be incorporated casually into pop culture. Last decade it was Cthulhu popping up in kids' cartoons and other odd places. Now it's fursuiters in Apple commercials.

Netflix is on fire, yo.
The OA. I couldn't quit this one after not thinking I'd want to watch it at first. Basic, non-spoilered premise: A woman escapes seven years of captivity and has difficulty reintegrating into society. Tight and detailed drama that my very basic description does no justice for.
Travelers. Various groups - semi-independent cells - of people travel back in time to save their present. Their method of time travel is via the mind. Consciousness is sent back and re-inhabits the bodies of people who were fated to die. Still working my way through but it's p good.
Lemony Snickets just released yesterday. All's I know is that NPH is starring. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Are you guys getting the autoplaying ads when you scroll through your queues? Not the ones that sometimes play for just one featured thing at the top, and not the autoplaying from the detail screen, but ads that play for every single thing you stop on for a second or two as you're scrolling through?
We just found out that not everyone has that 'feature' yet, which has happened before, so I'm thinking we're just at the front of graduated rollouts of things like this. I get Cassandraed about new 'features' like this a lot by people who haven't seen them yet.
It's driving me so crazy I don't even look at Netflix anymore unless I know exactly what I'm going there to watch, and I'm curious as to whether it really doesn't bother people or if they just haven't had it happen to them yet.

In somewhat positive news, One Day at a Time is good. It's a re-doing of the classic television sitcom. What I like about it: The new fambly is Cuban, first generation American. Starring Rita Moreno as the abuela who p much steals the show. I'm not fond of the Schneider they got tho. The comedy part is only about fair.
In not somewhat positive news, I only made it through two episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I don't know what happen. Maybe I was not in the right state of mind or sommit because it's the kind of thing I should love to pieces. An quirky dark comedy is one of my go to things. But for some reason the child abuse angle made me hate it, initially. I'll likely try to revisit it because, you know, quirky dark comedy.

For no good reason I was trying to avoid it. No, really, it was for no good reason. Mostly the kind that is listed under YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO. While I don't regret my kneejerk reaction, it was stupid. Santa Clarita Diet is top notch zombie comedy. Drew Barrymore is perfect. For once in my life I'm not wondering why I don't like Timothy Olyphant. (Don't ask. It's something about his face.)

YES PLEASE: Netflix Boards Korean Zombie Series ‘Kingdom’. It's set in the Joseon Kingdom, one of the longest-lived dynasties in history that ruled Korea from 1392 to 1897. It gives the series a lot of options for time period.

I watched "I, Origins" the other night - not what I expected. Took a major twist half way through.
Check it out - and if you do watch all the way through the end credits.

I actually liked Knights of Badassdom. I put it on, thinking, this is probably so dumb that even Peter Dinklage and Summer Glau couldn't possibly save it. But once it gets to the LARP grounds, it just gets funnier as it goes along. You probably need at least a rudimentary understanding of D&D/role playing game jargon, and okay, being a bit high won't hurt either. But I loved the characterizations; I've known people like these.

I watched it a few months ago on cable if I recall correctly. I did not care for it, I felt that the fundamental science of the film was fundamentally shitty and offensive in it's display of shitty biology.
Watching it, I felt that Ken Ham may have helped fund it, if that makes sense.
