Crazy Person: Okay, let's compromise. If you want to borrow my car to go to the store, you don't have to punch yourself in the balls until you vomit. You only have to punch yourself in the balls until you double over in pain.
Sane Person: But I still have to punch myself in the balls. I don't see how that's a compromise.
Crazy Person: I gave a little. See? You used to have to punch until you vomited. Now just until you nearly collapse. So we're agreed, right? You can use my car and get us some food.
Sane Person: But all I get out of the deal is a bit less ball-punching.
Crazy Person: That's right. I compromised. Why won't you agree? You also get to buy some food.
Sane Person: But you'll eat the food, too.
Crazy Person: Exactly. So we both win. See? Compromise.

Pelosi (D) cries white tears for all those poor starving children of congress critter who she would never force to go without their Nannies.

Just think of all those rich white home owners and their Children, you wouldn't want them to go to a State College would you?! Monster!
Just a reminder that while it's tea partiers who are having their diaper baby tantrum, Democrats don't give a fuck about you either. The Rich only consider other rich real people.
Well yeah, and the thousands of Gov workers who are being forced to work without pay aren't the drivers of the shutdown either. Too bad they don't have a choice to label themselves "essential" and keep getting paid like Congress. Ultimately her minion is saying the children and cushy living of those who shut down the government are more important than the children of thousands of workers, including those protecting her at this moment.
Wow the California disparity is amazing. We have 4 out of 19 richest congress members and 3 out of 10 poorest congress members. You can probably guess which group is all white and which group isn't.
I am completely hobbled by the loss of the Library of Congress and national museums websites. I actively miss the LoC in particular. I reach for it and stop myself.
Okay, I don't necessarily want to tell the LOC and National Zoo how to do their jerbs (just kidding, of course I do) but how not-robust is your website if it requires daily human intervention to work? Or is the shut down more than just furloughs? Did they have to shut down the web servers too?
Maybe they're having to shut down the buildings/wings of buildings that house the servers, and have some rule about leaving lights/computers on when no one's there?

I don't know for interwebs, but I bet we can game out an answer for Executive agencies.
You are President Obama. You are trying to build public pressure on Republicans to end the shutdown. Do you want public-facing agencies demonstrating that they can offer services to the public, even in the absence of funding?
You are a cabinet official or political appointee. Your budget has been cut or held constant. You owe your job to the President. Do you want to demonstrate to Congress and the President exactly how much you can do, even in the absence of funding, and exactly how few people it takes for you to do it?
You are a non-appointed director of an agency. You have already identified essential and non-essential personnel. Do you want to demonstrate to your political master how much you can do with only essential personnel, even in the absence of funding?
You are a webmaster or network administrator for an agency. Due to budget cuts, your agency is looking for ways to economize. Hiring has slowed or stopped over the past several years. Do you want to demonstrate to your director that you can flip a switch and let the website run itself, even in the absence of funding and "non-essential" personnel?

As an actual anarchist, shit like this is almost as infuriating as the government shutdown itself. These people are not anarchists. They are petulant children who want to eliminate the parts of government they don't like without presenting anything useful to serve the same purposes. Actual anarchists at least propose replacing government with something, such as mutual aid or worker cooperatives, and a lot of us don't even want the government eliminated before capitalism is. These people have nothing apart from "let the market handle it". All of us (except for AML, who still owes us €200) know how ridiculous that is.
