Equifax accidentally serves 'fake flash player update' malware which installs adware and possibly spyware onto those who don't realize it's fake.

There's that unflaggingly mighty Galtian efficiency for which private industry is so universally renowned.

Did anyone else get a letter from AT&T informing them of the Equifax breach?

We don't have any accounts with AT&T for anything, but I did used to work there.

Why would AT&T think they had to tell me about it? It's just a really generic notification telling me it happened and what to do, but it doesn't say anything about what it might have to do with them.

We did, but then we have AT&T for cellphone service.

We're going to put a freeze on our credit. Don't need any new credit anyway, not for the foreseeable future.

Consumer Protection in the Trump Era - Lawyers, Guns & Money

Quote:
Mick Mulvaney, head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has pulled back from a full-scale probe of how Equifax Inc failed to protect the personal data of millions of consumers, according to people familiar with the matter.
But Hillary Clinton gave a couple of speeches once, so I'm sure the exact same thing would've happened under her administration. In conclusion, both sides do it, but Democrats are worse.

My son's friend, one of the nicest, smartest, and most responsible of people, just had his entire identity stolen. They cleaned out his bank account and maxed out all his credit cards, and that's just what he's found out so far.

It's not a sure thing that it's Equifax, but it's them or his former employer because this guy did everything right. It's extra scary that it happened to him.

(And extra enraging, because he is such a good guy and one of my favorites.)
