Press Release – FAA to Allow Airlines to Expand Use of Personal Electronics

It's about fucking time. Yeah, yeah, first world problems. I'm just glad they finally figured out how to shield the cockpit from the pilot killer rays emitted by my Kindle.

It's been known for a long time that electronic devices didn't cause a problem but there was a very remote possibility that maybe they could, so the ban was mostly a precation. One that was tested over and over in real world flight conditions as more than a few pilots admit to forgetting to airplane mode their phone without problems.

First world problems aside, plenty of non-verbal and other people use iPad or similar as assistive devices. They were already allowed to keep their devices on, thanks to ADA, but try arguing with a flight attendant about it when you are fucking non-verbal.
