Mrs. S is now suffering through an initial attack of shingles. I had gotten the live-virus vaccine a few years ago, but I went this week and got the first shot (of a two-shot regimen) of the new vaccine.

I've taken some pride in a) noticing it when it happens and b) being able to find the thing wherever it may have gotten.

Except until yesterday. I got out findered.

I came back from break and noticed that a single part was AWOL. I went on a MISSION. I will find this thing! I looked in all the regular spots. I was even ready to dive into the scrap dumpster as a last resort.

One of the new peoples said OH HEY BORT. YOU MISSING THIS PIECE? THIS PIECE RIGHT HERE? THE ONE THAT'S OVER HERE RIGHT ON THE TABLE IN FRONT OF DOGE AND EVERBODY?

OK, so when you have a sourdough starter, you have to discard a little bit of it and feed it once or twice a day. I'm doing 100% hydration, meaning I feed it with equal amounts of flour and water. So I take out some of the starter and add it to my discard container for later use for other things, then weigh the remaining starter and add the flour and the water.

Today, I was (and remain) extra tired, so I inadvertently put the discard container on my scale at first and tared it. I quickly realized my mistake, though, so I took that off and put the starter on to tare that. But I didn't have to recalibrate because it was exactly the same weight! Exactly the same!! EXACTLY to the gram!

My starter is in a heavy ceramic hinge top pot, and the discard is in one of those plastic containers that Asian restaurants put soup in for take out. Totally different weights and sizes of containers, almost random amounts of starter vs. discard, and the ONE AND ONLY TIME I mess up and weigh the wrong thing, it's exactly the same weight as the right one.

Trimmed down for those who never needed to know this and likely won't in the future:

Tare weight (Empty weight of a container)
+
Net weight (The weight of the stuff in the container)
=
Gross weight

I've had training in

HAHAHAHA

I just got a personal assistant scam email, and the dumbasses just CC:ed everyone!

So I responded to everyone except the sender using an anonymized email to warn the potential marks and explain how the scam works.

My good deed is done, so now I can be an unmitigated asshole for the rest of the day.

I was checking a sample of names from a European division of the company, to test a claim that very few of this set are in active directory (because reasons).

Lots of the Swedish, Danish and other names looked like they would be fairly rare across this company of over 100,000 (lots of French, Russians, Brazilians, Chinese, etc). And thus they turned out.

When checking "Ulrich" I thought there'd be a few more, "around 10", and there were exactly 10. I think I have earned a tea break!

I dislike and suck at gardening, but I decided I really need to have at least a small vegetable garden this year. I hate the Home Despot, though, so I went in ONCE to get some soil and a few vegetable plants, and then I got a couple more, including Fresno peppers, at the grocery store, as you well remember from a previous post, I'm sure.

So we dragged over some landscaping logs that a previous owner had done some kind of delineation with and made a small rectangle for the garden, but we cannot explain to all the dogs why they are not supposed to walk and urinate on the vegetables and stuff. But I was determined not to go to the dumb store for the stuff to make a fence. We didn't have any kind of appropriate wooden stakes. We don't have enough chicken wire or hardware cloth.

Then, today, I figured it out.

IMG_20200527_171209.jpg

We did have some wire coathangers, so I sorta straightened then out, then bent them into rough arch shapes and stuck them in the ground, then added some sticks from our crabapple tree to help visually delineate the area. I'm only like a third done, but it works. The dogs now know they're not supposed to enter the fenced off area, and I did NOT have to go to the terrible store.

And it is, as you can see, impossibly glamorous.

I moved my PostgreSql database, and my Flask web site running on Apache server that uses this database, from my laptop to my Raspberry Pi. And set up a cron job to back it up daily over ssh. Next I might move my git repository to the Pi as well.

I have moved all the bookshelves to the new place. 95% of the books. Many small appliances. Most of the coats and many coat hangers. The Kid's clothes, books, toys and stuff so she has something to occupy herself with at the new place. The garden shed, which was washed out and also needed a door hinge rebuilt before it could be loaded onto the pickup truck.

Then the kitchen counter where the small appliances were living here is completely cleaned off and cleaned. Looks weird not to see anything on it --horror vacui. :freakout:

Also the collection of vases has been vastly thinned out and the ones I am keeping are all washed and in the drying rack.

When we get back from our two-day Va-K to the northern nether-reaches of New England, we will finish moving the rest of the "small stuff" and also take the chickens to their foster farm. :sadcheer:
