PupetteF is feeling good, especially after going on thyroid meds at an appropriate dose. She's lost some weight, too. She remains a voracious eater, so we started supplementing her food with unsalted green beans to increase satiety. She doesn't seem to notice that they are green beans or have a different taste, but she seems to enjoy the extra volume of edibles in her bowl. Of course, the extra beany goodness makes for extra beany farts and healthy poops, but it's all part of her weight loss journey. Did I mention that it transpired that she is actually only 6 rather than 10, and just needs her teeth cleaned?

Her brother has taught her how to enjoy a good walk and sort of how to play. She has a kind of linebacker approach to play. While PupF is a whole lot faster than she could ever hope to be, she just tries to knock him down.

This is the sofa that was once there for the comfort of humans on a Saturday morning (human visible at extreme right, on one half of one sofa cushion, being kicked by PupF):

For those not on the facesbook, I'm sure they would want you to know: Our beloved members Demimonde and Contrapposto have lost a dear family member. Mr Dante Alighrrrri passed earlier this week.

The big girl is on her first beach trip!

This is her first trip away from home with her dads, so we weren't sure how she would do being away from home and everything. She is pretty chill with it all and settled in better than her brother, who does not like the beach very much. She doesn't go swimming in the ocean, but is otherwise happy to walk on the beach and stuff until she gets hot. Fortunately, she finally started getting the hang of pooping on walks (i.e. in places other than her own back yard) a few weeks ago, so this will not be a week of poopless anxiety.

Music Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!

We spent most of memorial weekend digging our party patio out from about 3 years' growth of jasmine and spidey-webs. As soon as it was done, the little girls did not waste any time staking their claim.

The dogs and I just got in PRETTY BIG TROUBLE. We went outside, and the blue jays yelled at us like they always do, but then I noticed both dogs were gently smelling the heads of some little babby blue jays on the ground.

So we came back in, and I am still in the process of comforting the poor ladies whose feelings were hurt by the harsh words.

Zsa Zsa being gentle didn't surprise me, but I didn't expect that from Flossy. She gets pretty worked up about squirrels and similar injustices. I'm pretty proud of them both right now.

ETA: Oh. I just checked and there is a dead one in the yard. The dogs didn't do it, though, unless they scared it to death or something. The ones whose heads got smelled seem to be flying around now, and the dead one is in a different spot.

Interesting, my cute little Sheltie, who everyone thinks is so precious and cute is a fucking murderer.

He's eaten dozens of cicadas, and one baby bird. Ate it right up before I could even react.

The yearly reign of terror that occurs in my back yard every summer is in full swing. Authorities seem powerless to stop the serial-killers from striking seemingly at will.

Profiling suggests we are dealing with one or more high-functioning psychopaths, extremely sadistic individuals with a fetish for gruesome trophies. The victims differ, but for those that can read the signs it is clear that they are not selected at random: our serial killer(s) target the young, the fluffy, the adorable disproportionally. Other targets include familiar and well-liked individuals, and occasionally targets that we felt were safe because of their size and strength.

I have already learned not to try and grab a kiwi from the fruit bowl without first examining it carefully for ears and a tail, as that is where little murdered bank voles are regularly deposited. Clearly, the perps are trying to mock our inability to stop them, shocking us with associations: ripe fruit and murdered youth, the transience of life, the inevitability of decay...

Last week we found the pigeon that used to hang out feeding from the Ivy that grows over the back wall, savagely disemboweled in the most gruesome way and left there in the middle of the grass. It's wings outspread in a mockery of flight, it's poor body ending above the mid-section, entrails deliberately spread across the grass. The absurdly angelic image of the peaceful dove with wings spread, reaching for a now unattainable heaven, as if it is trying to ascend from the horribly distorted remains that are all that is left of the rest of it's body.

They are speaking to us in symbols of horror and death, forcing us to observe their gruesome artwork. These are not random acts of violence. They are toying with us.

Later, when I stepped into the side-room, I found what looked like the remains of some dark Lovecraftian ritual: ripped-out feathers strewn around an ominously empty center where the gruesome sacrifice had no doubt taken place. What made it even more sinister was that there was no trace left of the victim apart from these feathers.

Our murderer(s) are evolving as the cycle continues, expressing his (or their) gruesome body-part fetish in more and more disturbing ways. They are drawing our attention to what is missing, what has been brutally taken away from these carefully choreographed scenes of violence and torture.

They are trying to get into our heads. And it is working.

A large pair of rodent rear-legs was discovered in the shed - most likely all that is left of a rat. And not a small rat either. Placed tauntingly on top of the laundry-basket, the murderer(s) clearly wanted us to witness the desecration of all that is clean, the futility of flight, the brutal theft of all identity as nothing but an anonymous pair of hind legs remain.

It is not safe to go out barefoot to the shed anymore, in the dark. They are watching us.

The rook that used to hang out on the roof was next. This time, nothing was taken. The body, discovered by locals near the patio area, was not even marked. Where the perpetrators interrupted before they could finish their usual desecrations? Is this an unrelated crime, or even an accidental death? Or are they showing us that even a bird of this considerable size can be taken without any signs of struggle, that they can kill without apparent effort, at will, without noise, right on our doorstep?

At night, we lie awake, and the images of the slain return in vivid, garish color. They have been seared right into our psyches. And then I realize they know that I lie here tossing and turning. They know, that I know, that they can violate even my very MIND.

I can almost hear their dark laughter echoing somewhere inside my soul. And the summer has barely started.

The late, great Buddy . . .

. . . was a goddamn CORPSE EATER. He could automatically intuit the location of any dead animal within a half-mile radius, and at that point the battle to determine whether and to what extent the corpse would be eaten was on. Dead birds, dead mice, dead squirrels . . . you name it, he'd try to eat it. He practically strangled himself trying to get to a dead fox he discovered on one of our walks.

But our favorite Buddy the Corpse Eater story happened right in our own backyard. I was a the south end of the yard and Lisa was at the north end when Buddy found a dead bird right at a point about equidistant between the two of us. We both saw him pick up the bird, hollered "NOOOOOOO" and started running toward him at the same time. By the time we got to him, Buddy had already decapitated the corpse and eaten its head.

I'm visualising this in slow motion. Across a massive yard, in fact a country estate. Lord and Lady Matlock-Pea spurring their hunting horses towards the Corpse-Eating Hound of the Batshitvilles. Dramatic music plays.

Change the word "eat" to "fuck" and you have our Gizmo. She doesn't seem to understand that she's a little toy purse dog and a pretty pretty princess, and all she ever wants to do is roll around in some dead rotting thing and get its entrails all up in her long, white fur. :yuck:

The dark side of pet ownership. When suddenly things like mass murder, necrophagy and necrophilia are things that happen in your family.

As if the vicious serial murders are not enough, I also have to contend with a small tea cup poodle / Maltese cross with a rather extreme teddy-bear fetish.

I keep telling myself that it is not possible to rape an inanimate object. But every time another fluffy toy gets energetically violated, I feel distinctly uneasy. It would not be so bad if Bella looked a little less like a fluffy pretty princess. And if she didn't stop to move the unfortunate victim into an even more suggestive position every few minutes or so.

The worst thing was when we had a friend and his toddler son over. He had a fluffy teddy that made sort of high-pitched squeak when you push on it. It sounded like it was crying for help.

Does that make her a furry, I wonder?

My uncle used to have this dog that was some kind of crazy terrier/humper mix. She was not a good dog by any stretch of the imagination, but she got to come to all of the fambly events, because she was also fambly. She traveled with a small harem of stuffed rapetoys. Most of the time it was pretty innocuous and you just learn to disregard it, but she had a canine's sense of mood. Like, hey, family picture? Let me get my squirrel I'll fuck it across the floor in front of you. SMILE :unpol:

Neither of ours hump, but PupetteF will eat basically anything that looks vaguely like cat shit. Or a chicken bone. Or a french fry that has been on the beach for a few hours getting soggy and salty and gritty. I would be surprised if PupF ever tried to eat anything alive, but the way PupetteF looks at squirrels, I'm p. sure she could swallow one whole, if she could find one that was sick/slow/dead enough.

He tolerated all my toddler evils, pulling on his delicate little collie ears, using his leonine mane as a pillow, generally being obsessed with the doggie and never leaving him alone. Never once did even bare his teeth at me. He also murdered kittens. The instant they scrambled under the gate into the yard, he was on them and they had seconds to live. Shook them by the neck until they snapped. It was deeply disturbing.

Protip: a pug will enjoy munching on a corncob, but will not stop until the entire thing is consumed. Therefore, do not allow your pug access to castoff corncobs. Or, if you do, keep said pug off all furniture for 24 hours. She managed to puke her breakfast onto a bed AND a sofa.

All is well now, it seems. Just a day of queasy pugtum.

Gizmo got a haircut! :awesome:

She could be a fluffy pretty princess excepting for the aforementioned corpse-fuckery. So she gets to look like Ramona the Pest.

TBH I think she likes it better this way. It's probably a lot more comfortable.
