I finally got around to pulling these pics from last Saturday down off the cloud.
The blue team goes by ISBAR (Ingress South Bay Area Resistance, I think), and they have cool shirts. We're Silicon Valley Enlightened, boring!, but we make our own shirts which is hardcore, obviously. We used to be South Bay Enlightened, but southern California also has a South Bay, so we changed it to be less confusing. There's also EPIC (Enlightened Peninsula Ingress Community), covering the area between us and San Francisco, inclusive.
Nice! FS can be totally drama free because people who are all on-line drama llamas can't bear the scrutiny of actually facing the people they are dogging (dogboying?) on.
Also, true that! I quit the official communities and hangouts a while ago, and I realized that the people who were the most obnoxious are people I never see in the field. They just like to boss around other people and tell us we're doing it wrong. The game is hella fun among the people who actually get out from behind their computers and play!
So we've been under this BAGF for going on 3 days now. Two anchors in the Sierra Nevadas and one in Hawaii. Apparently the California two are closed for the winter. I'm worried about the situation on the ground in Hawaii. Do we have people physically protecting it? Is there going to be violence?
Anyway, at least it's green, but it's annoying as fuck not to be able to play.
Wow. Still up? LoL it won't be forever. The California portals are hard as heck. Spoofer might take it down, we have found a few likely cases in Oregon. Also one community had a pilot.

At about 8.55 I was in town and made a small field. By about 9.15 I noticed I was now covered in blue. By the time I got home at 9.30 I was so covered in blue I couldn't see the roads anymore (I think you need 3 or 4 layers minimum for that).
On your screenshot it looks more like 10 layers at least.
Apparently it was all put up legitimately, but was taken down by one or more cheating green spoofers (using fake GPS inputs to their scanners). This makes me sad. No one likes cheaters - even when they are 'on your side'.
I was working up in Chester-le-Street last week, and I had no time for ingressing.
But I got out this morning and made level 7. It's taken me three weeks, but as I missed last week, really just two weeks and a day. So far, I've not had any help from other players (a couple have offered, but I declined).
Next target is to see if I can make level 8 within a month of starting, and without accepting any help...
I got my fucking platinum guardian today and I can't even enjoy it because in looking at my stats I realize I lost my fucking sojourner 6 days ago. How the fuck did that happen? It's stopped at 346 days. FUCK
The local smurf here is a little strange. He's a nice enough chap, but a little odd. For instance sometimes we will be joking back and forth on chat and he'll suddenly take offence to something and be actually angry. I rarely even know he's no longer joking, only finding out later when he apologies for shit I didn't even notice. I've met up with him a couple times and there has never been any drama at all, he's just weird. Even the other smurfs in the surrounding area have mentioned it a few times.
Anyway, recently he switched sides to green. I was a little bummed because he's the only local smurf, so him being green as well means sometimes there will be very little to do. I asked him in comms why he switched and his response was that he "didn't feel like he could win as blue any more"
I have no idea what he even means. 1) there is no 'winning' in this game, shit changes sides all the time and it just ebbs and flows* 2) blue, in general, kicks my ass constantly. There are no outside greens that come into Boston and do anything significant, but there are 2 or 3 blues that level everything occasionally and leave me lots to do. I do play more than him, so in the end there is always green for him to clear and loads of fielding he can do.
But you know, he's a nice enough chap so, hey --
Next day I see his old smurf name back in action so I message him and ask what is going on. Turns out he switched back to blue again! His smurf name isn't exactly the same, so I guess he started a new account, he's definitely L1 again. He said he "went a little crazy there".
Weird.
*sure there are small victories all the time but no one really wins
