Sol Pais "manhunt": Schools across Denver area closed as FBI, police seek Florida woman

So this 18 year old who is some kind of Columbine shooters fan came here from Florida for the 20th anniversary and immediately bought at least one gun, so they've shut down schools all over the state while they look for her.

PS: The governor just signed a red flag law, and a bunch of sheriffs are saying they won't enforce it, so I don't think I have to tell you what loons on the internet will be saying about these developments.

My friend isn't sure what a red flag law implies. What would be the best way to explain it?

A red flag law is a law that allows the government to take someone's guns temporarily as an emergency measure if they have reason to think they pose an immediate threat. There is a huge amount of pushback on the law, including several sheriffs saying they refuse to comply.

Colorado's red flag gun bill signed by Polis, goes into effect Jan. 1

Of course they need to oppose it! They can't plant a gun on everybody they shoot.

This is awesome in a number of way, foremost the scheduling system is bullshit and should be dismantled, That psilocybin is schedule 1 along with marijuana is just a joke given similar to marijuana someone would need to really really try to hurt themselves through overdose as there may not be a real LD50 for it. Obviously the hallucinations and life changing experience can hurt people and occasionally has led to suicide so they need to be used under supervision but otherwise it's one of the least harmful drugs around. Especially when compared to meth, cocaine, alcohol, opiods, etc. things like psilocybin don't even breach the bottom of the list.

The next biggest thing is that as more research is done, we could put the many years of stumbling and poking about in psychopharmacology and depression. Many depression medications target the same receptors as Psilocybin and are looking to do similar things, however since the super simple version, psilocybin has been banned they've been scrambling to find safe medications that provide relief but not hallucinations.

Many others aren't so blatantly but I mean, really!
Approved in the last decade antidepressant Viibryd™

Bufotenine, Schedule 1 hallucinogen

Psilocybin

Something looks really familiar there in the top approved drug, but don't worry, it doesn't make you question the need for war, like the bottom two.

The Dems with demonstrated ability to win a statewide election p. much all currently hold public office, except Hickenlooper. I really wish he'd abandon this idiotic presidential campaign--which appears part of a calculated effort from within the party to portray Dem efforts to retake the presidency as a clown show--and get on with the serious business of booting malevolent Trumpling asshole Cory Garner out of the U.S. Senate next year.

We've got four Dem House members here in lolorado alone who are substantially better on the issues, namely Reps. Diana DeGette, Ed Perlmutter, Joe Neguse and Jason Crow. Trouble is, none has ever won a statewide election, and we need 'em all in the House. :D

There'll be no shortage of qualified Dems to run against Gardner, though. That Senate seat is ripe for the pickin', as Gardner becomes more of a shit show with each passing day.

Up in BC there's a mountain called "Tunnel Mountain". It has no tunnel in it, because the decision to blast a tunnel, rather than go around, was quickly realized to be possibly the greatest engineering blunder of all time.

Sam Seder on Majority Report suggests Hickenlooper is a stalking horse for Joe Biden, and angling for a cabinet seat. Like Fracking Czar of the Department of the Interior.

Hickenlooper could well be angling for a cabinet position. How his candidacy would help Joe Biden, I don't know. I would expect him to be more likely to take votes from Biden than from, say, Sanders, Warren or Harris.

I really don't see the problem here. If the Second Amendment doesn't confer an absolute right to brandish firearms at fellow motorists on controlled access highways, then engage in high-speed evasion of Deep State thugs bent on doling out punishment for the exercise of that right, then wft DOES it confer?

Yeah, that's some good shit right there. About 5 years ago, 36 was in desperate need of expansion and repair. The Colorado Department of Transportation got the money through "Plenary Roads Denver," a consortium of multiple private companies, mostly if not exclusively European companies. In exchange for financing, the consortium gets to collect all the tolls for the express lanes along a lengthy stretch of 36, plus a mile or so of Interstate 25, just north of Denver.

When the deal came to light back then, certain state legislators were apoplectic over the prospect of turning government functions over to private enterprise, but CDOT took a hard line. Basically, their response was, "Fuck you. Y'all cheapskates in the legislature and the electorate keep piling work on us, but refuse to provide any goddamn money to get the work done." And they were not altogether wrong.

This here sinkhole developed in an area that engineers had concerns about since at least 2009. What did Plenary Roads Denver and the companies it used to handle the repair/expansion work do to address those concerns? Fucked if we know!

What we do know is that the deal was structure in true sink-or-swim, mighty Galtian anarchocapitalist fashion--privatize the income stream, socialize the risk:

Quote:
Taxpayers could be on the hook for costs related to the collapse, according to a 2014 agreement between the Colorado Department of Transportation and Plenary, which collects toll dollars.

John Hickenlooper, who recently ended his presidential campaign, will run for U.S. Senate. He becomes the immediate favorite in a field of 13 Dems seeking to unseat incumbent Republican shitsack Cory Gardner.

The clown show presidential campaign and a boneheaded comment earlier this year to the effect that "I'm not cut out to be a Senator" will make things tougher than they otherwise would have been, but Hick is the only Senate candidate (other than Gardner) who's actually won a statewide election.
