Re: First World Problems
Mrs. Puppet just read me the riot act for turning on the AC. She's cold in the front office, while I'm burning up in the back office (the back corner of the master bedroom). Then she put on my sweater, with deliberate motions, obviously to signify the consequences of my actions.
I had to turn on the fan, like a fucking refugee.

Re: First World Problems
I weep for you, I deeply sympathise.
On the other hand, at least you are in the same building, in the same country, able to have arguments about room temperature.

Yes, the same building, in the same country, all the time. All the time. Aaalllllllll the time.
Maybe we can do a Freaky Friday sort of thing.

Even my parents keep their house at 18°C+.
And Finnish houses ... 23-25. Partly because they have proper insulation: triple glazing.
Dampness is cultural though.

My desk chair makes a squeak when I lean on one side which is the exact same pitch and tone as the smoke alarm low battery beeps. Except not as freakishly loud, obviously.

I seem to be throwing away more rubbish than normally during solitary confinement, and with going shopping less than usual (and dutifully using my own canvas bags when I do) I have no plastic bags to use as bin liners forcing me to buy - buy! - rolls of flimsy silly bin liners.

My broadband is down. For the third afternoon in a row. It's the end of civilisation!

Monday it was down 2 to 3 hours, yesterday for a shorter time.
This means no Netflix and not even any live TV (cable).
I'm having to use mobile data, which due to caps will not last me very long if I watch all the videos and do all the skypes.

Re: First World Problems
Yesterday evening, broadband was down but the Virgin Media (yes I'm naming my service provider, no they will not feel any shame) status checker said there were no problems in my area. Liars!
This morning it was still down and the status checker admitted there was a problem and says fix estimate tomorrow 15:00. Outrageous!
And then it mysteriously came back. But the status checker page still says there's an intermittent problem.
It's not quite Schrödinger's broadband, because it's definitely observable. Maybe it's Einstein's relativistic broadband, because two different observers (me and the ISP) may not agree on whether it's up or down. In fact it's Kafka's totalitarian bureaucratic broadband, because the Provider can withdraw it at any moment and mislead me about its status - most of the time not providing any information.

Re: First World Problems
omg I have had that experience - with the freezer, of which I have only one, and that a small one.
Enlightened people like Miisa, and my parents, have a second freezer. Which of course also gets full.

Why not just switch locations?

My setup here is (presumably) temporary, while her entire business is in that office. She'd just be coming in every 10 minutes to get a file or something. Whereas, all I need is my laptop and a tall docking/monitor rig, and a broadband connection to steer her by.

Re: First World Problems
So last year The Kid and I picked up a free patio table and chairs for the deck from some nice people on the Craigslist. Unfortunately, this year the plastic inserts that pop into the racetrack along the inside of the tabletop that the legs/table-top supports slide into have become brittle and broken, so the glass top isn't really held in place on the supports anymore and can flip right off, taking whatever is set on the table with it right to the deck. You know, like a plate full of hot dogs and hamburgers, or sushi, or tacos, or really anything that could be piled onto plate to eat, that you would set on a table in the final preparation of a meal. Spectacular instant cat food.
This would only be a temporary problem if these "racetrack inserts" could be purchased and replaced, but they cannot be. I searched on the Internets for a while this morning and for almost two hours just now, poring over patio furniture parts lists, "accessories" menus and even eBay. These things just aren't out there. They appear to be that "planned obsolescence part" that when it breaks you're shit out of luck, and you're forced against your will to go out and buy an entirely new patio table.

Re: First World Problems
My phone was lying on the ground in the back yard for almost 24 hours, which is why I couldn't hear it the many, many times we called it.
Also my ringtone is the theme from Unsolved Mysteries, and the lady who lives behind us has been outside gardening.

Re: First World Problems
This weekend, we were looking for a movie to watch. We had a couple of options, and narrowed it down to one of my suggestions, Blade Runner 2049. We then rented it on a streaming service.
I just got the latest DVD from my Netflix queue. It is Blade Runner 2049.

Re: First World Problems
I recently found the DVD of Snowpiercer in the bargain bin, and have yet to watch it. Worse though, I am having filing issues. I have a few slots it could go into, such as "horror", "drama" or the very popular "assholery" (crime and overall 'humans being humans'). Is it fantasy? Alas, I have no "dystopia" shelf at this time.
I had it initially with monster movies, but then realized it wasn't about zombies, just poor people. I sometimes get those confused.

"assholery" is a great category, and seems like it could serve as a dystopia category too.
