Very poor usage, young man. How about "Philosophy got two predicted 7s"?

Yes, it becomes clearer. Not as clear as it could be, but clearer.

But changes my intended meaning.

In your sentence, the word 'predicted' is an adjective whilst in my sentence it is in the passive voice.

Well, I'm still trying to figure out if:

"Philsophy earned the scores of 7 which were earlier predicted for her achievement."

or

"Philosophy had scores of 7 predicted for her future performance in the program."

And, I still don't understand why "predicted" scores are offered up at all. What's that all about?

But it isn't you that "got predicted." That's what's unclear. And clarity is all.

You won't get your three bonus points with that sort of grammar or usage.

It's an adjective either way; 'passive' is not a part of speech. The passive voice = auxiliary 'to be' in the proper form + past participle, and a participle is a verbal adjective. In this case, 'got' is serving as an auxiliary and 'predicted' as the past participle. It is something like the past perfect, except that 'got' is usually an ambiguous auxiliary in cases like this. Which gives rise to the structural ambiguity noted above.

It's the latter, godfry. The IB program gives externally assessed exams. Examiners factor in the internal assessment of the local teacher when determining the grade on any given exam as a way to tie in class performance to the final exam result.

Getting 7s on his internal assessment means Philosophy is that much closer to receiving 7s on the exams themselves.

Well, the IBO requires them. When a student who is predicted a 7, but ends up getting a 5, or a difference of two or more points, then the IBO will remark the papers the student took.

Not only did Philosophy get 7s on his internal assessments but he also got 7s on all mock and simulated exams. :)

I'm trying to perfect my usage.

I'm helping you (ChuckF more so).

P.S. godfry thinks you're a girl, which may be another consequence of awkward usage.

That doesn't mean a great deal, in my experience. My English A HL exam, for instance, was far harder than the simulations, while my French B HL was far easier.

My English teacher predicted a 6 for me. I was quite delighted to get a 7 instead. :pleased:

A 7 in HL A English is very remarkable. :)

But the mock and simulated exams help you know what the IBO looks for in your answers. :yup:

When you're sitting in front of an examiner it's a whole different story, believe me. The mocks are fine for written exams, but there is no simulation that can prepare you for engaging the mind of a stranger.

My English examiner and I had a rather spirited disagreement, in fact. I thought for sure he was deeply displeased with my performance. Turns out the opposite was true.
