What is a monument but a standing memory? An artifact to make tangible the truth of the past. My body and blood are a tangible truth of the South and its past. The black people I come from were owned by the white people I come from. The white people I come from fought and died for their Lost Cause. And I ask you now, who dares to tell me to celebrate them? Who dares to ask me to accept their mounted pedestals?

You cannot dismiss me as someone who doesn’t understand. You cannot say it wasn’t my family members who fought and died. My blackness does not put me on the other side of anything. It puts me squarely at the heart of the debate. I don’t just come from the South. I come from Confederates. I’ve got rebel-gray blue blood coursing my veins. My great-grandfather Will was raised with the knowledge that Edmund Pettus was his father. Pettus, the storied Confederate general, the grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, the man for whom Selma’s Bloody Sunday Bridge is named. So I am not an outsider who makes these demands. I am a great-great-granddaughter.

I saw this yesterday, shared by a friend on facebook. No way I am letting the assholes go unopposed to at my fucking house. (It is literally half a mile away)


I then found out the altright snowflakes decided to not have a rally because they were scared of the counter counter protesters.

Dozens of people showed up and changed and were cool. some cars honked support.

I drove her over about an hour and a half before the scheduled start time and walked home, so I could make sure she would have a good view. On my walk home, I did see one dipshit in a Make America Great Again shirt walking towards the area, so apparently he didn't get the cancellation memo.

Sometimes, I wish we had some of the cops or cop apologists still around, because I seriously want someone to tell me why they think these things are OK.

Cops have teargassed and shot at protests EVERY NIGHT, except one, in Portland. Despite orders from various "over sight" committees. Despite cameras. Now Police from other locations (Troutdale, Multnomah County for example) are joining at tossing shit at the kids protesting.

The cop culture of hate and fear must concretely reduce their intelligence and ability to observe and realise things - the way ongoing extreme stress and trauma can do to anyone. I think they really don't consciously realise that everyone is filming them and reporting on them. They have a narrative of persecution which makes them unable to scale back or realise that scaling back might be a thing.

Many Americans watched in disbelief when CNN reporter, Omar Jimenez, was arrested in late May while covering protest activities in Minneapolis. Stunned by what appeared to be a clear violation of the First Amendment, Americans reacted with shock. How could a credentialed reporter be arrested?

The incident raises many important questions about our supposedly free press and it joins other similar instances of the apparent repression of reporters at recent events following the killing of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests.

Even more disturbing to many of us watching CNN that day was not just the attack on the press, but the fact that police targeted Jimenez — a person of color — before arresting the other members of his team. Although seemingly all of the team were identified as threatening, Jimenez was deemed worthy of early and extra attention.

The differential treatment of Jimenez should not be surprising. Our research shows just this type of targeting of BIPOCs during protests, which we refer to as "Protesting While Black" is once again on the rise

Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets

Federal law enforcement officers have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland and detain protesters since at least July 14. Personal accounts and multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining individuals with no explanation of why they are being arrested, and driving off.

No markings on the kidnappers or the vehicles. Is this even lawful? (after watching the video in full screen and seeing some other photos, I think it does say POLICE on their uniforms?)

Gun and Second Amendment are only for teh whites in L' Merica. The Black Panthers tried to use their Amendment 2 rights only to have Gov. Raygun strip them away. Funny (not funny haha, funny interesting) how NRA and Republicans used their own legislation against the Panthers to frighten rural whites in the years since into supporting less gun regulations.
