It's kinda hard to divorce the aesthetic appeal of the styling from the fact that the styling also is how other people identify it as an Apple computer (i.e. the status symbol aspect).
I happen to think my laptop looks pretty nice too. But you know, it has a Dell logo on it, which I guess isn't as aesthetically pleasing.
I have a Pixel 2, and it's pretty hard to say that the iPhone X is obviously aesthetically superior (or vice versa, I suppose, they look pretty similar, although I guess the Notch on the iPhone is divisive). I mean, do you like a glossy back, or a matte back? Do you want more rounded edges or less rounded ones? I don't think that's what you're paying 50% more for.
Sure, Apple products look better than many of their competitors, particularly at the lower end. But this ain't the 90s/early 2000s (for PCs), or the first generations of smartphones. Maybe Apple pioneered these aesthetics, and good on them for that, I guess, but they're not competing with clunky beige boxes, Motorola Droids, etc. anymore.

Does not being preloaded with Microsoft or Google products count as a technical feature?

No, that's pretty much equivalent to repeating that it's an Apple with different phrasing.
If you're not talking about actual ways that the Apple versions of those products are better (because it's certainly not the case that Apple hardware doesn't come preloaded with tons of Apple products so it can't be that you're upset by preloaded software), it's not really a feature so much as a brand name. And attaching value to the brand name itself is... you know... basically what I was talking about.

Re: I hate Apple
Yes, it's hard to divorce the aesthetic appeal of the styling from the fact that the styling is also part of the branding. But styling can have costs, both in materials and in designers' fees and salaries. Maybe Apple's premium covers these costs several times over, or put another way, they turn their unique selling points into profit.
And yes, I do think that the Apple software is somewhat better than that which comes bundled with microsoft and google products.

Re: I hate Apple
Let’s just say that sure ok the iPhone turned him gay. Oh how did it do it, some sort of western apple gay rays, a gay chip, maybe even a game connected to your fitbit that gives you more points if you masturbate to gay images than straight ones...
Nope, instead the gaycoin app gave him “69 gaycoin” and told him “You can’t knock it till you’ve tried it!” And he said, “fair played gay app!”
I’ve always wondered in movies where they get all the seemingly endless faceless mooks, turns out they all just downloaded “Mob Hitman the app” and it was like “What do you mean you’ve never murdered rival gang members before, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!”

Re: I hate Apple
So yeah uh...periodically have to change my password on the MacBook...and like the last time, it prompts me to update the Keychain or create a new Keychain...I opted to update the Keychain and it goes ahead and breaks whatever link there was to the private keys for my development certificates. I can download the certificate from the developer portal but without the private key it won't work. Now I've learned that there's a "renamed" copy of the previous Keychain which I am hoping I can load up, export what I need, and import into the current Keychain. Otherwise I have to revoke the signing certificate and cause hilarity to ensue when the apps cease to function on 60 iPads.
I'm inclined to leave things alone until January, after the need for the current app build is over.

I have two iphones (6s,7P) at home, and my sister suggested that I sell them. At least they are not damaged,i am considering whether to do so.

Should you decide to do so, does there happen to be an online store you recommend that offers great deals?

I can't separately select "Natural" scroll direction between the mouse and the trackpad. The "natural" scroll direction makes sense for a track pad, but it's counter intuitive for the mouse, especially because I have dozens of years of habits from using a mouse on Windows PCs.

Relevant here too.

The two companies believe their approach - designed to keep users, whose participation would be voluntary, anonymous - addresses privacy concerns.
Their contact-tracing method would work by using a smartphone's Bluetooth signals to determine to whom the owner had recently been in proximity for long enough to have established contagion a risk.
If one of those people later tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, a warning would be sent to the original handset owner.
No GPS location data or personal information would be recorded.

No need to download dedicated apps = no user control, right?
No personal information would be recorded, yet the point is to contact the original handset owner: how can they do that without personal information?

Re: I hate Apple
They've always had to track the approximate location of each phone, so that they can route any calls to it via the appropriate cell towers. So if someone reports to them, "I am now infected", they could then send alerts to any phones that have been close to the infected person's phone during, say, the previous seven days. Obviously the addition of GPS data makes the tracking much more accurate. I'm surprised that they say Bluetooth data would help - I suppose Bluetooth works inside some buildings that block GPS signals.

A company called Nodie, which runs a peer-to-peer bluetooth network is creating an app called Coalition.
Coalition
They claim data is anonymized, kept on your device, and your anonymous id is updated weekly. I haven't verified any of this.

Re: I hate Apple
I don't hate Apple today, but where else can I put this incredibly pointless anecdote?
An iPad I bought in October just stopped charging so I sent it in for repairs. On August 3rd they received it, and immediately marked it "repair complete, a replacement will be shipped". The replacement came yesterday, leaving me bewildered as to how it took 3 weeks to ship a new unit.
