Hey Lamar Smith! You can definitely, definitely STFU now.

http://blog.hotwhopper.com/2016/03/r...peratures.html
It's a long story, no warming since 1998, House Science Committee, demanding emails from scientists, buoys, satellites are the gold standard yada yada yada but he's just had the stool kicked out from under him, so he can definitely, definitely just shut the fuck up now.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Almost forgot. Ted Cruz can shut the fuck up too.
Ted Cruz says satellite data show the globe isn’t warming. This satellite scientist feels otherwise - The Washington Post
Quote:
My view actually is simple. Debates on this should follow science and should follow data. And many of the alarmists on global warming, they’ve got a problem cause the science doesn’t back them up. And in particular, satellite data demonstrate for the last 17 years, there’s been zero warming. None whatsoever. It’s why — you remember how it used to be called ‘global warming’ and then magically the theory changed to ‘climate change’? The reason is it wasn’t warming, but the computer models still say it is, except the satellites show it’s not.

“Global warming is now in overdrive”: We just hit a terrible climate milestone | Grist
2°C warming is already a reality, in other words. I’m having a difficult time seeing how we recover from this. Seems like it’s already too late to stop catastrophic warming.

Arctic sea ice has never been this scarce at this time of year. You can see any year you like on the Charctic site. The anomaly values are large. Tamino has a nice analysis.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Hottest global July in the instrumental record. Heck, hottest month ever in the instrumental record.
On the flip side, the arctic ice seems to be tracing along at a mere 2 SD below the 1981 to 2010 average. This is fairly normal for the past decade or so, so that's much better than ermuhgerd.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Strange how all the warming is simply adjustments to the data.
Scientism, when the observations don't fit the hypothesis, change the data!!

I wish to live in Jerome's world. One where a global conspiracy of some of the smartest people publish their actual data exposing their fraud and just hope no one notices.

Re: Climategate 2.0
So, what place in science is the hiding of data?
Should not the conclusions be able to be replicated?
How can this be done when the data is hidden?

Re: Climategate 2.0
Omg guys here comes that Social Justice Warrior again. Ugh, what PC thing do they want this time? Something about not choking ourselves to death on pollution destroying the entire human race. Ugh that's so PC, can't they just let us destroy humanity in peace?
Like seriously I bet the person who discovers a doomsday asteroid will be called a Social Justice Warrior. Afterall, not all the science is in, large impacts are natural and who knows maybe it's good for the earth!

I will also add that derogatory, unironic usage of "social justice warrior" is a very nearly foolproof signifier of a person with nothing worthwhile to say.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Judge orders EPA to disclose any science backing up Pruitt's climate claims | Ars Technica
Scott Pruitt, Trump's anti environment head of the Environmental Protection Agency, mouthed off on CNBC about global warming is a hoax. This generated a FOIA request to provide supporting doc's, and a judge backed the request. The EPA (well, prolly just Pruitt and a coupla cronies) tried to weasel out, but the judge was not impressed.
Quote:
“The agency asks ‘how is one to even know precisely what documents one relies on in forming one’s beliefs?’” the judge wrote in her brief. “As the plaintiff points out, however, nothing in the FOIA request seeks information ‘about Administrator Pruitt’s beliefs or how they were formed.’” Instead, the FOIA only requests any agency documents that the administrator relied on to formulate his public statement.
|
Good article, worth a read. I hope I get to see some followup on how it all shakes out.

This is awesome. It's like a FOIA request backwards, they would be happy if they had something to release but they don't.
