We're still trying to watch Dark. We had watched Season 2 approximately 1.5 times, based on the progress bars in the app, but when we watched the Recap at the beginning of Season 3, we were like "huh? I don't remember any of that!" So we started Season 2 over, and we're maybe halfway through again.
I like this show and I'm really excited to see where it's going, but damn you really have to pay close attention to keep up. Plus it's super distracting how the English dub and the English subtitles are based on different translations. I speculate that the subtitles are probably more faithful to the original, since the dub was translated with the additional constraint of trying to sync up with the lip movements.
The lady cop, is apparently both Elizabeth's daughter and mother? And Noah is her father?

Oh! But what I meant to post is that the Eurovision movie is totally awesome and I loved it. Cried my little eyes out at the climax, but that was probably due in part to sleep deprivation and other stuff.
I fucking loved Legion as the oversexed Russian rock god.

Yes, I liked it so far, but that's not necessarily a recommendation.
I binged the whole thing. I don't disagree with anything. That said, I totally enjoyed it. For me it didn't do anything that was terribly egregiously wrong, like an unfair number of series that I have to push myself through.
I didn't read any of the comics that are apparently the source material (or the inspiration for at any rate) so I can't compare the content. I will say that I like the asthetics of the television show over what I googled about the drawn comic stuff.
I enjoyed it with very little reservation. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the genre and or that kind of quasi-religious stuff but not a general recommendation to anyone who is just looking for something.

YES! I was so surprised with how much I loved this film. I was not expecting much, but it was such a wonderful and faithful compensation for missing the ESC this year and I was laugh-crying during the semifinals, which generally does not happen.

Yes, I have also been annoyed by the differences in translations, even though am semi-used to it as if I watch an English movie here in the theatres it will be subtitled in both Finnish and Swedish at the same time, and sometimes THEY DON'T AGREE. And sometimes very occasionally they are BOTH wrong. I don't even realise I am reading them - and reading them both - until I notice discrepancies.
I ALMOST decided to watch Dark in German instead, but I was too lazy to switch and just know I would miss even more when relying on reading alone.
Also ugh at the name pronunciations in the dubbing. I wonder if Silja is actually pronounced Sill-dja in German, but somehow I doubt it. Almost certainly Sil-ya.
Also hard to tell who is who as so many of the characters look relatively similar to each other.
(Mild s. 3 spoiler, but having seen the end of s. 2 it is expected.)
But keeping different characters apart is easy compared to keeping the same characters in different timelines or universes apart from each other.

YES! This bothered me more than it even should have, but I have to say after watching all of season 3 I am again calm.

Hey everybody! The Old Guard was pretty entertaining.
It's is an urban fantasy action movie about immortal warriors. Charlize Theron kicks ass as the oldest and the leader of the group. It's basically what you expect it to be and it's competently done.
But the craziest part of the movie is the big baddie is Dudley Dursley! I barely recognized him.
It's "Diriliş: Ertuğrul" in the original Turkish, or "Resurrection: Ertuğrul" in the English-subtitled version. It's a moderately fictionalised life story of Ertuğrul, father of the guy who founded the Ottoman Empire.
Looks pretty good so far. Already in ep 1 I found myself cheering the hero slaughtering some nasty Crusaders.
The main thing that I'd like to draw the forum's attention to, however, is the name of the podcast Bey Watch.
It turns out
Quote:
"Bey" is a Turkish title for chieftain, traditionally applied to the leaders or rulers of various sized areas in the Ottoman Empire.

On Amazon Prime: "Get Duked!" Totally makes no sense, but, if, you squint right, you can see the bones of a demented "Stand By Me" for the 21st century.

One thing about Shudder - the reason why I renewed it this year, was they do a decent job of curation. The programmers at the network are actually working to expose the viewer to new things.
Today's new thing is "Dragula: Resurrection." This show is a special on Shudder. Dragula is a drag competition where the focus is on four principles, "Drag", "Filth", "Horror" and "Glamour". So basically, this is "Drag Race" with a horror or grotesque focus.
I'm mostly bored with the competition element, but man am I impressed at the artistry, skill and style of these performers. Some of these queens are amazing in the vision and execution of the macabre.
Why did I put this on the Netflix thread? Well, you can find the regular show on Netflix.

The Queen's Gambit was a thoroughly enjoyable ride.
You don't have to know or like chess at all to enjoy this show.
It's really good. Give it a go if you haven't already. Highly recommend.
It's about a young girl who becomes an orphan. The Janitor at the orphanage teaches her chess and soon realises she's an incredible talent. She grows up to take on the best in the world. There's some sex, drugs and rock and roll thrown in as well.
Lots of great performances, but Anya Taylor-Joy is just amazing as the lead.
Also, if you do like chess it's pretty great from that angle as well. They had Kasparov and Bruce Pandolfini as consultants and used some actual historical games in the show. But you don't need to know anything about chess to appreciate the show.
