US gov't announced the founding of a 'border security force' to guard the Syrian/Turkish and Syrian/Iraqi borders. Never mind that the Syrians and the Turks never asked them to and in fact are very much opposed to it. So yeah, this is going to go the way of Saudi's attack on Qatar, Yemen and Lebanon: badly.

Vic Mensa - We Could Be Free (Lyric Video) ft. Ty Dolla $ign - YouTube

Rapper Vic Mensa filmed that video in Palestine and wrote an op-ed in Time:

Vic Mensa: What Palestine Taught Me About American Racism | Time

Quote:
Last summer, I traveled to Palestine with a group of African-American artists, scholars and activists organized by Dream Defenders. I am not anti-Semitic, and the views expressed in this essay are in no way an attack on people of the Jewish faith. My words are a reflection of my experiences on my trip, and my criticism lies with the treatment of Palestinian civilians by the state of Israel, no more and no less.
Fucking disgusting that you have to come up with that disclaimer in the first place. Are pro-Tibet activists Chinese-haters? For that matter: are people who stick up for Israel Arab-haters/Islamophobes? (although the answer in that case is usually HELL YEAH!!!)

Tillerson: US To Keep Military Presence In Syria To Remove Assad From Power

Quote:
“Assad’s regime is corrupt, and his methods of governance and economic development have increasingly excluded certain ethnic and religious groups,” the official said. “Such oppression cannot persist forever.”
Wow, just wow. This is the only remaining secular regime in the Middle East (Lebanon is not so much secular as divided into cantons with a complicated voting system), after the US already destroyed Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Christians and other minorities ARE being discriminated against in the Middle East by US allies Saudi Arabia, the UAE and especially Bahrain (although that's a minority in power oppressing the majority with Saudi help). As for corrupt: Israelis have been protesting Netanyahu's corruption for weeks while he is under investigation. He's been convicted of it before, apparently doesn't harm his election campaigns.

So yeah, thank Trump for more transparent lies...

Yeah, There were rumors that the Russians gave them the green light.

Quote:
The Russian military is not withdrawing from the Afrin Canton in Aleppo’s northwestern countryside, pro-government Damascus Now reported this afternoon.

According to Damascus Now, their sources in Aleppo have denied the withdrawal of any Russian troops, despite earlier claims by pro-Turkish regime media outlets.

But there's also this:
Quote:
Reinforcements from the YPG traveled along the shared Hasakah-Aleppo Highway to the city of Aleppo, where they eventually made their way to the Afrin Canton in the northwestern part of the province.
Despite political disagreements, Syrian gov’t to allow Kurdish YPG to reinforce Afrin from their territory

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson gave a talk Wednesday at the right wing Hoover Institution that hovers over Stanford University, in which he committed to a Forever War in Syria. The talk was a mishmash of incompatible talking points and full of inaccurate and tendentious assertions, but its most troubling feature was the determination to keep US troops in Eastern Syria over the long haul.

Some 60% of career diplomats have fled the State Department in the past year, as Tillerson seems intent on destroying the institution he leads. The lack of any real expertise on Syria is obvious in his erroneous talking points.
Trump Admin Commits to Forever War in Syria against Iran | Informed Comment

Quote:
I can’t go into all the contradictions in this policy. Tillerson names al-Qaeda in the northwest as another target for US intervention. But complains about the regimes operations against the al-Qaeda affiliate there! When attacking the Damascus regime, Tillerson lionizes the rebels who rose up against it. But he downplays that some of them became extremists except when casting about for some reason to stay in Syria.
The vast majority are extremists and they didn't 'become extremists', the Muslim Brotherhood (militia Ahrar al-Sham) were involved from the start and so was al-Qaeda.

The U.S. is left with a mess. Its strategy for Syria, only announced last week, is already falling apart. Its Central Command rejected any responsibility for the Kurds in Afrin while allying with the Kurds in the east. These are the same people. The Kurdish military commander in Afrin earlier fought in Kobane. Now Turkish planes are taking off from the U.S. build Incerlik air base to bomb the Kurds in the Syrian west while U.S. tanker planes take off from Incirlik to support the U.S. alliance with the Kurds in the east.
