I can't in good conscience [Thanks] that simply because there's not an official FUCK YOU 2016 button. And there's still six fucking days until we can all sit up and watch this year finally fucking die.

At this rate I just assume 2016 is going to carry Carrie Fisher over to 2017 before dropping the axe just to crush our silly arbitrary demarcation of time.

Vera Rubin, an astronomer whose theoretical work on galaxy rotation rates led to the theory of dark matter, has died of natural causes, age 88. It's absolutely incomprehensible why she never got a Nobel. Well, probably not, actually: misogyny. But it's unjustifiable, at least.

Actress Liz Smith, BAFTA winning star of Royle Family and The Vicar of Dibley, has also died, age 95.

Tomorrow, December 28, 2015, will be one year since Lemmy died. That was when 2016 really started.

All the sadder because her heart attack was very likely brought on by the film industry's insistence that actresses must be skinny.

In fairness, the exact same thought occurred to me: neither Anakin nor Luke had the advantages or support systems that Leia did. I doubt she'd have done so well had she grown up like Luke did, or if she'd spent her formative years as a literal slave.

And of course she was never tempted by the Dark Side: she was never trained as a Force User, so it was never an issue.

I still think it's a nice sentiment, though.

Cheers,

Michael
