Default I complain; you protest; they boycott businesses

1

Protests achieve a lot: they help the people protesting realise they're not alone, and the same for those who are sympathetic but couldn't get to the protest, and in the case of US anti-anti-immigration protests, they show the affected countries that many USers are on their side.

But I go along with those who say they don't put much pressure on the government (except perhaps to lead them to enact draconian anti-protest laws).

2

The Republicans and the Democrats are both the parties of business, not parties of the people.

And business seems to love Trump so far. All that deregulation in the air.

Why American bosses have become giddy, last-minute fans of Donald Trump | The Economist

Which slightly surprises and greatly annoys me.

3

Public pressure does affect some businesses.

Uber CEO steps down from Trump advisory council after users boycott | Technology | The Guardian

Retailers not carrying Trump product lines.

Banks withdrawing loans from the Dakota pipe line.

Can more businesses be persuaded that chumming up with The Chump is poisonous, and this outweighs the profit advantages of wild west deregulation?

If nobody else - not the public, not the soon-to-be-if-not-already-disenfranchised voters, not foreign heads of state - can influence Lord Dampnut and the Death Eaters, perhaps businesses can.

Is anyone keeping tabs on businesses that are friendly to the Narcissistic Naartjie (not just sectors, like Oil and Pharma; pretty hard to boycott or pressurise an entire sector), and ways of pressurising them?

There are a bunch of different lists with different criteria, but here's one story about one of them, and there are others if you search on Trump boycott businesses.

What really fucking sucks is that I misremembered when our Amazon Prime subscription renewed and JUST MISSED being able to cancel it in time. I have pre-cancelled it for next year, though, and I'm going to make an effort to go back to my pre-Prime ordering levels. I really fucking hate Amazon, but I got lazy when I got free shipping. Before that, I would keep a running list of stuff I really couldn't reasonably get anywhere else and then order them once there was enough for free shipping, maybe twice a year.

That was just about the only place on those lists I ever bought from regularly because I try to avoid buying shitty garbage from stupid turds, I guess.

Amazon is about the only one on the main #GrabYourWallet list that I could actually reduce my expenditure on. Most of them I hadn't even heard of.

There seems to be quite a bit of tension between the first part and the second part.

Given the latter, I'm inclined to think that the former is not true.

The former is plenty true if protests don't continue when they become illegal. Or if everybody gets their getting-arrested badge of honor once and goes home.

True and true. But getting a regime to become more authoritarian and dangerous isn't super helpful, is it?

It might wake up a few more sheeple.

Protests need to happen. But those whose power is money need to feel the pain in the money.
