Not dead yet, but Gord Downie has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer The Tragically Hip, their first 4 albums in particular, were the soundtrack to my life for quite a while. He was a poet and an amazing song writer.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Folk-rock violinist Dave Swarbrick, best known for his work with Fairport Convention, has died. Here is "Crazy Man Michael", which is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in any genre.
The LGM piece also links to news about country/folk singer Guy Clark, who died a few weeks ago, and whom I didn’t even realise was ill.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Saw Fairport Convention open up for Tull back in, '82? '84? They were at least as good as Ian Anderson & co.
Music is taking a HUGE hit this year. Fuck you, 2016.

R.I.P. to Michael Herr, author of Dispatches and screenwriter for Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now, age 76.
R.I.P. also to keyboardist Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads, etc.), who greatly influenced funk and hip-hop, and labour historian James Green, author of Death in the Haymarket and others.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Dang, I loved the Trinity movies!
In other news, I happened to learn that Dan Haggerty died back in January. I saw a few episodes of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams on dvd recently, and the show was ... well, pretty silly. But man, I loved it as a kid.
It seems like an awful lot of my childhood icons have died during the past year; is it me?

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
For some reason I never got around to noting the death of trailblazing women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt at age 64 a few days ago. To this date she still has more wins than any other coach in NCAA basketball history. She had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2011. She has been praised for her response to the disease, as she refused to be pitied. A sample of responses to her death can be found here and here.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
That's what mr curses has been making me watch. Well "making me" is a bit of a stretch. It's been worth it. We may have to do a binge rewatch when I have a few free evenings.
Side bit where I may fangirl a moment. I did lol a bit, the tune to the theme song later made it to a Monaco song. I guess that was part of the divorce settlement between her and Peter Hook (who is also in the video I linked above)

Huh, I had no idea she was married to Peter Hook. Anyway: Scorchio!
