They make good margaritas, but that's about it. The taquerias a mile or two outside the River Walk have much better food, and they're cheaper, too.

the alamo is pretty cool too

Quoted for truth. Brisket there is yum.

When we ate at Cooper's we had just gone to Inks Lake State Park and Longhorn Caverns, which is pretty and a good taste of a typical American cave tour (cheesy with a little science thrown in). Inks Lake has nice walking over pretty rocks--the wildflowers were pretty in the spring--and it has a swimming hole which probably feels good in the hot sun.

It's probably an even more enjoyable trip when it's not a day-trip from Houston.

Yeah, I didn't mention the Alamo since it was already covered. But by the way, it's free, so you might as well check it out.

Have fun. If you get a clear night, it's worth a drive out away from the city lights to look at the stars. Compared with the view we get here in light-polluted Europe, the night sky seen from rural or desert USA is amazing. Binoculars are good for star gazing and would help with the bat and alligator viewing too; 10x50 is about the best size for hand held use.

Oh yeah, we should get a good look at that in Big Bend. :tumble:
I noticed that for the first time in Greece, that there are a LOT of stars out there if there is no light to distract you. I have also had the pleasure of being in the Palestinian West Bank near Jenin with no streetlights but you could hear Israeli tanks moving in the not-big-enough-distance :nailbiter:

The voltage and frequency is different too.

Most of Europe is on 230V AC 50 Hz

Most of the USA is on 120V AC 60 Hz

Make sure whatever you are plugging in can work okay on American electricity - a simple adapter might not be enough.

Hmmm, good that you mention that, I am taking a laptop and phone.

Both plugs/adapters say 'input 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz', so it should be ok though.

Hope you have a great time Watser?! Can't add much more than what the others have. I wish you were coming up North to my part of the state, Contra and I would love to take you around to our museums and music scene. Of course NOLA, Austin, and New Braunsfels has plenty to offer.

In NB you must go to Gruene Hall. Texas's oldest music hall. Every Tuesday one of my fav Texas bands plays. Two Tons of Steel. It's a trip.

But I am sure you will love Big Bend. I am pretty sure you can fit Luxembourg in the bathroom there.
