To this day, I STILL  upon recalling that Fox News used Charlie "This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag, And We Don't Wear It On Our Head" Daniels as a constitutional law expert in the aftermath of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit holding that inclusion of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional.

Maybe not that famous since I didn't know he existed until I saw Twitter in an uproar over his passing, but Michael Brooks seems to have been loved by everyone who knew him.

Also not necessarily that famous, Tim Smith of Cardiacs has died at age 59. He'd apparently been extremely sick since suffering a heart attack and stroke back in 2008.

When Smith first got ill, some of his fellow British musicians did an album of Cardiacs cover tunes to help with the medical expenses. This was Steven Wilson's contribution:

Wilson's statement:

Quote:
I am deeply saddened to read of the passing of Tim Smith from Cardiacs today. Even though Tim had been ill for many years, it's still hard for me to think of him as gone, as his music made such a big impression on me, and continues to do so. He had one of the few truly unique sounds and musical personalities you could ever hope to hear, it was almost impossible to understand where his music came from and what his influences might have been. In that respect he was a true original, and like many other true originals he paid the price of being a cult artist, relatively under the radar for most of his career. But for those that 'got' Cardiacs they almost without exception went on to become their favourite band. A few years ago when Tim first became ill I contributed a cover version of one of his most beautiful compositions Stone Age Dinosaurs to an album released to raise funds for his medical care, and I would like to share it with you here as my eulogy to Tim.

Peter Green. Fleetwood Mac founder, singer, composer, and guitarist.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53539989

He was one of the, sadly many, great rock artists profoundly damaged by drugs. He survived to the age of 73, though something of a shadow of his former self.

Damn. Oh Well and Black Magic Woman are a couple of my all-time favorites. Amazing he lived this long. He got diagnosed with schizophrenia in the early 70s, when the mental health profession's "cure" for everything was locking the patient in a psych hospital and administering lots and lots of electroconvulsive therapy.

I think she was the last of the Gone With the Wind cast to die - certainly the last of the main cast. I think she outlived everyone.

John Hume, former SDLP leader and Nobel peace prize winner, dies at 83 | Northern Ireland | The Guardian

Quote:
His death marks the passing of one of the most important Irish political leaders of the 20th century whose ideas of compromise, opposition to violence and cross-community outreach underpinned the principles of the 1998 Good Friday agreement.

Hume was described on Monday as “the man who kept hope alive” during the darkest days of the Northern Ireland Troubles.

Just found out that drummer/keyboardist Bill Rieflin died in March at the ripe old age of 59 (cancer). Among others he worked with Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Nine Inch Nails, R.E.M., Taylor Swift, Toyah Wilcox, and most recently King Crimson. I saw him with KC in 2017, though by that time he was playing keyboards exclusively. Tributes from King Crimson bandmates and others are available here.

Rieflin is in the middle here, flanked by fellow King Crimson drummers Pat Mastelloto and Gavin Harrison.
