Irwindale City Council voted unanimously to declare Huy Fong sriracha sauce factory to be a public nuisance. As of yesterday they had 10 days to submit a plan to mitigate the pepper smells that are the nuisance and until June 1st to eliminate the offensive odors. The City Council and Huy Fong are already embroiled in a lawsuit over the matter. The public nuisance designation, according to the City Council, gives them the right to go in an install whatever remediation required and assess the company the costs if the company fails to do so by the deadline date of June 1st.

I hereby declare that the Irwindale City Council constitutes a menace to the public at large, world-wide.

My brother-in-law recently had surgery (for the removal of a mole) in a hospital in Sriracha, Thailand. He was powerless against Sriracha as the doctor who performed the surgery had declared that the mole constituted a dangerous nuisance.

No sauce was consumed in the course of the surgery.

Huy Fong Foods Sriracha Sauce factory in Irwindale no longer deemed a nuisance after city council voted unanimously to drop a lawsuit and nuisance declaration filed previously.

We're trying to use up everything before we move so I made some Sriracha flavoured jerky. I used my normal jerky recipe but only used half the soy sauce and Worcester sauce and substituted 1 cup of Sriracha for the rest of the spices and to make up for less liquid from the soy and Worcester sauces.

I expected it to be quite flavourful because the Sriracha has a strong garlic and chilli flavour. Actually it was a little disappointing. It tastes fine, but the flavours are very mild so it's fairly bland. Strangely, it has a mild tomato like flavour.

Even bland jerky will get eaten quickly so it won't last too long, but I'll go back to my regular recipe when it's done.

Ok, seriously. Sriracha is okay but holy shit. It's everywhere and in everything now. It's literally the biggest food trend since Emeril taught people about garlic. Because apparently people didn't know about that either.

What the hell happened? I mean, the shit isn't even very hot.

Wait, I guess that's it, really. "Hot sauce" that isn't that hot, for people who normally whine about black pepper to say they are hip and cool because they ate this "hot" thing? I mean, I dunno, you tell me. Just feels like a trend.

And no I'm not some huge sriracha hater - I have a bottle in the fridge and we used some on our fajitas last week, I just don't get the whole craze that's going on right now. Hell, even Subway is on the bandwagon.

I have sriracha sauce in the fridge, but I still use Louisiana Hot Sauce on things. Neither of them are as hot as Tabasco sauce.

It's pretty spicy if you eat it straight. Hot sauces have other qualities apart from just spiciness, too, and sriracha has a distinctive flavor.

It's also American made, by a really nice guy, it has an extremely cool logo, and it's cheap. All of which are good, valid reasons for something to be a trend. It's existed for a while, but it just got fashionable to talk about it, and talking about it made people think about it more. Sort of like bacon. That trend is sillier than sriracha, as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe there's more weird stuff just because there are all those competition cooking shows on cable or something.

I probably go through at least twice as much Tapatio as I do sriracha, but that's mostly because I don't make Sriracha-requiring foods at home as often as I do Tapatio-requiring ones. Sriracha is better for most Asian and Greek and middle eastern foods, and it's also better on a lot of common American foods. IMO. So I'm guessing people are using a lot of it because it goes really well with noodles and sandwiches and rotisserie chickens and other things people eat.

I totally get the popularity of Sriracha. What I don't get is why Tabasco is so huge. Seriously, that stuff adds some heat but is pretty much tasteless, and their green and "chipotle" varieties are even worse (the alleged chipotle is just sweet BBQ sauce, basically). I think I like plain black pepper better.

Huy Fong Sriracha sauce is different than just putting some sriracha peppers in something else, a special recipe, an ancient Chinese secret, I guess.

STOP BEING RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING DAMN IT LISA.

But yeah you are right, it's just one of those trends that annoys me. It'll be out once someone figures out some other food thing.

I just ordered a 400 count box of individual serving size Sriracha Sauce packets for $50 (8 cents each), free shipping on Amazon.com. I have someone here locally committed to splitting the order with me. I think they'll be great for tossing in with my work lunch, maybe carry a few around in my truck console, you know, just in case I need to spice something up.

As mentioned in my bday thrad, I went here on Saturday and tried the Sriracha chicken sandwich. I have never been so thoroughly pleased with a chicken sandwich in my entire life. The Sriracha is infused into the meat in some way that I don't even, and then the sandwich is loaded up with Vietnamese style veggies, but just enough to enhance rather than overwhelm.
