In 1995 I responded to a burglar alarm at a residence in the dead of night.
I checked the front of the home and then made my way through the open carport into the backyard and was almost done with the perimeter search when I heard a sudden growl and the sound of a full on running approach toward me from the far corner.
I only had time to draw my sidearm enough to breach the holster and fire reflexively toward the target which was instinctively acquired and perceived as "attacking".
I remember a plume of dirt on the first shot and then nothing upon the double tap as I prepared to be struck and, quite honestly...chewed on by an unknown animal.
A few seconds later a pit bull was at my feet with a hollow point .45 in the center of his forehead, still breathing, but scrambled. The dog had to later be put down, but to my amazement, survived the initial close range shot. Tough, thick-skulled bastards, and worthy of their reputation to be sure.
The owners were out of town and understood the underlying foundation for my presence in protecting their property. I made sure to meet with them and express my sincere apologies for what had happened.

I am very upset at the dog fight shooting. Experienced dog handlers can usually break up a fight, I have done it myself with my 90lb Husky and seen fights handled at off leash parks all without guns (FYI, a person grabbing each dog by the tail or under their hind quarters, as all the action is at the front, and pulling the dogs apart is quite effective)
The worst part really is that it doesn't appear to have even been a fight. Based on what other witnesses said, and the fact that neither dog had any scratches or bite marks, it sounds like the dogs were just playing.
The guy had his dog leashed in a dog park, which kind of indicates that he doesn't know shit about dogs.
They also interview Cheye Calvo, mayor of Berwyn Heights, whose own two dogs were killed by a SWAT Team when they fucked up a no-knock raid a couple of years ago.

Now that most agencies have gone digital and every contact is incorporated right into a Records Management System (RMS) from dispatch on down to the filing system in the actual records division, it is more likely that since the report was initiated the officer was probably focused on information gathering to complete the report for the database.
That said, I'm not sure if the most prevalent argument here regarding government employees and authority...is that they're bumbling inept fools or diligent, cruel paranoid harbingers of oppression and doom or highly efficient agents of Big Brother monitoring every citizen for moral violations and ethnic impurities.
Either way it has always been certainly interesting to try to understand the overall mindset of folks I generally agree with on political/social issues as they express their views regarding LE and the general community.

Picture your day, waking up at 5 am, putting on your uniform and going to briefings regarding the recent burglaries, robberies, aggravated assaults, rapes, current warrants, suspect descriptions (many of them already familiar to you from previous arrests where they've been given bond or probation)...and then heading out to patrol your area, receiving slim jim calls to open car locks with infants or animals inside, domestic standbys, domestic assaults, giving directions to the mall/casino/highway, civil disputes, violent car wrecks, natural deaths of elderly (heat wave), next of kin notification, drownings, car burglaries, home burglaries, suicide interventions, arresting rape/murder/burglary/identity theft/fraud suspects, booking and processing procedures, being called to give testimony in court, etc., and then ending shift writing detailed narratives on each event before heading home in the same grid at 6 pm.
No, really...just try to picture that as your day.
Inhumanity really knows no limitations, class or station in life and should always be pro-actively resisted in real terms.
Fortunately, we are also capable of great love and compassion....which explains why we're probably still here.

That most departments and officers have a culture of community involvement and are doing their jobs well doesn't negate the fact that there are, apparently, a bunch of nasty, rude, stupid, corrupt and/or brutal members of the LE community out there. They need to be identified and they need to GTFO of law enforcement.
My "mindset" is that I find it unacceptable for government employees to abuse their positions of authority. In all cases. I am guilty of nothing more than having far higher expectations of tolerance, understanding, rationality, maturity, patience and overall courtesy for people with guns and/or the legal authority to detain, imprison, or otherwise infringe on the liberty of others, as well as have taken an oath to serve and protect and uphold our laws.
We had a "Night Out" in our area, which is great. So what's your point?
If it makes you feel better we also have "Fuck the Schools" threads, "Fuck Nanny States" type threads, and multiple "Fuck the Government for Surveillance" threads regarding TSA, wiretapping, etc. We even have "FuckTexas" threads. Police aren't the only government officials we expect more from.

So what you are saying is that, rather than this being a case of a rogue cop hassling a citizen and demanding ID to be entered into a 'database,' it's a systemic problem, in which all police are required to demand identification from anyone who has the misfortune of speaking to them? That's much better, yeah.
That also makes it even more egregious that he approached her in the first place. Are all cops so stupid that they think that someone in a parking lot of a water park with wet clothing is an incident that requires intervention, harassment, and documentation so it can be entered into a database?

Oh, no. Please, keep speculating about what people's motives and 'mindsets' are. What kind of person, after all, would be outraged when armed, violent police barge into people's homes, killing their dogs or their children; or when police harass and even imprison them for made-up crimes?

Yes. They do that right by our house. This year, they had the Flight for Life helicopter and some firetrucks for the kids to see, and the police demonstrated their police dogs.

In one case a woman at a water park got wet accidentally, which showed her bra, so she covered herself and complied with a request by a city official to change her clothes, then was approached by LE for no obvious reason.
In the other a woman got pissed off at another private citizen and walked in her bikini down a mall in spite of the signs stating modest dress was a rule.

I dunno, watching well trained police and search/rescue dogs run through various excercises is actually really interesting. Take downs were only a tiny percentage of the police dog trials I have seen.

The cops that are talked about in this thread and linked to in this thread...they're assholes. And a lot of times, they are in a system that breeds, encourages and protects assholes.
And all the whistle-blowing and "Nights Out" does not come close to mitigating the level of damage these assholes cause.
