Because ChuckF was recently gloating about his awesome desk, I thought I'd take a moment to say, "oh yeah? Well, I can't really compete with that, BUT I do have something pretty cool, too."

Looks like a regular everyday lockbox, right?

But inside...

That's right, ChuckFuck. Inside of my lock box is a typewriter. A typewriter MODIFIED with random bird shittings of white paint! TAKE THAT YOU ELITIST PRICK.

Anyway, I am pretty pumped about this thing. I just need to refurbish or replace the ribbon and the guy who bought it and rigged it up said the period key is out of place, so it needs a little work, but I am thrilled to have taken another step forward in my career as a starving artist.

Side note; Clarence has grown a bit. He's a mischievous little bastard, though. I feel all domestic and homely now.

That's a damn fine looking beshitted typewriter you have there, G. I like how the poop theme is repeated on both machine and container. How much does that lockbox weigh? Is it actually portable or is it one of those old timey "portable" situations?

That is a fine machine you have there, and so compact and portable in its stylish lockbox!

A coupla three things:

1. You can get standard ribbons online for not many moneys at all. There are only a few configurations of ribbon. You can try to reink yours, but it is not worth the trouble and it won't be as good as a new one from somebody who knows what they are doing.
2. Spend some time with a flashlight learning your way around before you try to fix your stuck key. Also, go ahead and get some oil. Google to see if you can find an actual repair manual. I am going to refurb one of my mom's less functional machines soon, and I dug up a maintenance manual from the 20s. It is one of the least helpful documents ever, but these are awesome machines with a lot of moving parts, so be ready to keep track of what you are doing.
3. One time I worked for this guy who used to hang out with Buckminster Fuller, and he got one of Mr. Fuller's old portable typewriters. It was a p. compact one from the 60s in a little carrying case. He kept it in the attic and let me type on it one time.
